Les Polythoridae sont spectaculaires, Polythore aurora est magnifique dans l’ombre du sous-bois. Il fait partie d’un genre (Calvert, 1917) qui comprend 23 esp\u00e8ces et dont de nombreux membres ont les ailes color\u00e9es par bandes, d’extension et d’intensit\u00e9 variables au sein d’une m\u00eame esp\u00e8ce. Ils ont fait l’objet de nombreuses \u00e9tudes tr\u00e8s techniques comme \u00ab\u00a0Color Polymorphism in Tropical Damselflies\u00a0\u00bb (1) dans laquelle on trouve les photos ci-dessous, montrant \u00e0 gauche les formes fr\u00e9quentes et \u00e0 droite les formes extr\u00eames pour Polythore aurora. \u00c0 noter que l’irisation bleut\u00e9e sur la photo ci-dessus est accentu\u00e9e par le flash.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce sont des esp\u00e8ces des pentes andines particuli\u00e8rement abondantes au P\u00e9rou. Elles sont incluses pour leurs caract\u00e9ristiques physiques et g\u00e9ographiques dans six groupes et celui qui contient P. aurora est celui dont le territoire est le plus \u00e0 l’est.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque les ailes sont ferm\u00e9es, il est plus facile de constater que la bande orange est surtout marqu\u00e9e sur l’aile ant\u00e9rieure, les ailes post\u00e9rieures ne portant au m\u00eame endroit qu’une bande p\u00e2le.
Je ne crois pas que tous ces sujets soient le m\u00eame individu ; les photos 1 et 4 repr\u00e9sentent le m\u00eame sujet, mais les autres photos ont \u00e9t\u00e9 faites 25 minutes avant. Je n’ai pas de souvenir pr\u00e9cis ; je me souviens seulement que la sc\u00e8ne se d\u00e9roule le long d’un ruisseau, dans l’ombre, et que nous avons poursuivi ce ou ces individus dans un enchev\u00eatrement de troncs et de branches pendant un bon moment, et qu’ils se sont r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9s tr\u00e8s difficiles \u00e0 approcher. Nous \u00e9tions alors sur la Terra Firme<\/em>, cette partie de la for\u00eat amazonienne qui n’est jamais inond\u00e9e et qui nous a offert des esp\u00e8ces bien diff\u00e9rentes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selys dans ses Quatri\u00e8mes additions au Synopsis de Calopterygines<\/em> (2) nous dit que l’aile post\u00e9rieure du m\u00e2le Thore aurora<\/em> mesure 29 mm, son abdomen 35 ; l’insecte entier mesure environ 44 mm. On trouve la m\u00eame longueur d’aile dans Bick & Bick (1986) (3). Ils fournissent une cl\u00e9 et des photos des ailes des esp\u00e8ces qui \u00e9taient connues \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque (hors groupe P. picta qu’ils d\u00e9taillent dans un autre document).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ci-dessus une image \u00e0 100% qui permet d’observer les pt\u00e9rostigmas sombres, en position extr\u00eamement apicale.

On rencontre Polythore aurora sur les ruisseaux et rivi\u00e8res en for\u00eat des r\u00e9gions amazoniennes de Colombie, d’Equateur, du P\u00e9rou et du Br\u00e9sil.

Quarante-huit heures avant cette rencontre, sur un autre site sur la Terra Firme, nous avions aper\u00e7u une femelle. Elle a tr\u00e8s rapidement disparu. On voit que son apparence est tr\u00e8s proche de celle du m\u00e2le, en excluant bien s\u00fbr le lourd abdomen et l’ovipositeur massif \u00e0 son apex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Polythore<\/strong> ; je ne suis pas parvenu \u00e0 trouver une origine satisfaisante au mot \u00ab\u00a0thore<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0.
Aurora<\/strong>, du latin – aurore<\/em>, aube<\/em> doit \u00eatre compris comme une couleur, couleur du ciel \u00e0 l’aube. Historiquement, c’est un jaune-orang\u00e9 et Selys (2) \u00e9crit : \u00a0\u00bb La bande transverse m\u00e9diane des ailes est d’un orang\u00e9 plus vif<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. Et plus loin, d\u00e9crivant une jeune femelle : \u00ab\u00a0La bande aurore, plus \u00e9troite<\/em>…\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
