Les donn\u00e9es concernant Epophthalmia frontalis, Macromiidae, sont sans doute sous-estim\u00e9es, car il n’est pas forc\u00e9ment facile \u00e0 identifier. Il ne se pose pas et passe rapidement le long des berges, \u00e0 la recherche de femelle.
Pour le photographier, il faut des berges d\u00e9gag\u00e9es, o\u00f9 l’on peut le voir arriver d’assez loin pour se pr\u00e9parer. Nous avons pass\u00e9 un bon moment \u00e0 le mitrailler sur les berges du r\u00e9servoir de l’universit\u00e9 de Chiang Mai, sans v\u00e9ritable succ\u00e8s pour moi ; en ce qui concerne les photos en vol, j’ai bien du mal \u00e0 me faire au viseur num\u00e9rique de mon EOS R7 et au temps de latence entre l’appui sur le d\u00e9clencheur et la prise de la photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une autre esp\u00e8ce de ce genre, E. vittigera, beaucoup plus rare, est aussi pr\u00e9sente en Tha\u00eflande. On identifie Epophthalmia frontalis par la pr\u00e9sence d’une paire de points jaunes plac\u00e9s lat\u00e9ralement sur la face.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure environ 78 mm, avec un abdomen de 50 \u00e0 54 mm et une aile post\u00e9rieure de 43 \u00e0 46 mm.
On le rencontre sur les mares, les \u00e9tangs, mais je pense l’avoir \u00e9galement observ\u00e9 sur un canal pr\u00e8s de rizi\u00e8res.

L’esp\u00e8ce est pr\u00e9sente de l’est de l’Inde et du N\u00e9pal \u00e0 la Tha\u00eflande et au Laos et sans doute aussi au Myanmar.

Epophthalmia<\/strong>, des mots grec epi<\/em> pour –sur<\/em> et phthalm<\/em> signifiant –oeil<\/em>. Burmeister a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre dans le second volume de son \u00ab\u00a0Handbuch der Entomologie\u00a0\u00bb, 1839, pour y inclure non seulement notre actuel Epophthalmia mais aussi les esp\u00e8ces des futurs genres Didymops, Synthemis, Tetragoneuria, Somatochlora, Cordulia et Syncordulia. Il \u00e9crit : \u00ab Le seul caract\u00e8re distinctif certain de ce groupe, qui diff\u00e8re \u00e0 certains \u00e9gards des libellules r\u00e9elles et est \u00e9galement commun aux deux sexes, r\u00e9side dans la formation des yeux, \u00e0 savoir dans le fait que chaque \u0153il r\u00e9ticul\u00e9 \u00e9met une petite projection [ici<\/a><\/strong> sur un Somatochlora metallica] sur son bord arri\u00e8re devant les tempes, qui s’\u00e9tend jusqu’\u00e0 la joue, y p\u00e9n\u00e8tre, et est \u00e9videmment l’indice d’un deuxi\u00e8me \u0153il.<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb La fin de la phrase (\u00ab\u00a0…und offenbar die Andeutung eines 2ten Auges ist<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb ) est vraiment curieuse et m’a fait douter de ma traduction avant que je ne la fasse v\u00e9rifier par mon ami G\u00fcnther Fuchs
Frontalis<\/strong>, du n\u00e9o-latin frons<\/em> avec le suffixe alis<\/em>, \u00ab\u00a0relatif au front<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. J’ai d\u00e9j\u00e0 mentionn\u00e9 le caract\u00e8re distinctif des taches jaunes du front et Selys (2) \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0… et quatres taches basales ovales formant une s\u00e9rie transverse au front, savoir: une \u00e0 chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9 de l’\u00e9chancrure <\/em>[m\u00e9diane] et une lat\u00e9rale entre celle-ci et les yeux se dessinant sur le front, qui est noir\u00e2tre acier<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n\n\n\n
