Triacanthagyna septima femelle, P\u00e9rou, Tahuayo Lodge, 13\/08\/2023<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Triacanthagyna septima est facile \u00e0 identifier ; c’est le (ici la…) seul Triacanthagyna \u00e0 poss\u00e9der des pattes claires et un thorax dont les sutures ne sont pas soulign\u00e9es de noir. Cette femelle n’a pas \u00e9t\u00e9 captur\u00e9e, elle est venue se poser sur le pi\u00e8ge lumineux destin\u00e9 \u00e0 attirer les papillons de nuit (moth) que Phil Benstead avait dispos\u00e9 sur une coursive sur\u00e9lev\u00e9e du lodge de Tahuayo ; donc \u00e0 peine \u00e0 quelques dizaines de m\u00e8tres de la for\u00eat et \u00e0 m\u00eame distance de la rivi\u00e8re Tahuayo. Si j’ai fait quelques photos de la face de cette femelle, je regrette de ne pas m’\u00eatre attard\u00e9 sur les appendices anaux et l’ovipositeur, uniques et sp\u00e9cifiques du genre.
Dire que ce pi\u00e8ge attirait des insectes est un euph\u00e9misme, plusieurs centaines le tapissaient tous les soirs !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Triacanthagyna<\/a><\/figure>
\n

Apr\u00e8s l’avoir d\u00e9licatement d\u00e9pos\u00e9 de son support, elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 plac\u00e9e sur un pilier de soutien de cette coursive sur\u00e9lev\u00e9, qui permet de ne pas \u00eatre inond\u00e9 \u00e0 la saison des pluies (d’o\u00f9 l’aspect vernis).

Nous avions d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 une femelle au Panama<\/a> en 2012, je ne me souviens plus de la raison qui fait que je n’en ai pas de photo : celle de Netta Smith est pourtant sur mes pages consacr\u00e9es aux Odonates du Panama.
Le m\u00e2le mesure de 58 \u00e0 66 mm, pour une aile post\u00e9rieure de 34 \u00e0 43 mm (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme tous les Triacanthagyna, c’est une esp\u00e8ce cr\u00e9pusculaire qui passe la journ\u00e9e pendant \u00e0 une branche, une feuille ou un rameau en for\u00eat sombre et devient active \u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit, pour se nourrir en limite de zones ouvertes.
Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend du sud de la Floride et du Texas au Br\u00e9sil et \u00e0 la Bolivie, incluant les Cara\u00efbes et Cuba, d’o\u00f9 l’esp\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite par S\u00e9lys (2). On la rencontre \u00e9galement en Guyane Fran\u00e7aise.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Triacanthagyna<\/strong> est compos\u00e9 du grec Tri<\/em> , pour \u2013trois<\/em>, acantha<\/em> pour \u2013\u00e9pine<\/em> et gyna<\/em> pour \u2013femme<\/em>. En effet, les femelles de ce genre portent 3 \u00e9pines sous les derniers segments abdominaux. Selys qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre en 1883 \u00e9crit : \u201c\u2640. Le 10\u1d49 segment prolong\u00e9 en dessous en une plaque procombante arm\u00e9e de trois pointes aigu\u00ebs assez longues, \u00e9gales, dont les deux lat\u00e9rales un peu \u00e9cart\u00e9es.\u201d
Septima<\/strong> ; septimus<\/em> en latin signifie –septi\u00e8me<\/em>, mais rien dans la description de S\u00e9lys ne permet d’\u00e9voquer cette \u00e9tymologie ; Selys l’appelle d’ailleurs Gynacantha septime, et peut-\u00eatre souhaite-t-il rendre hommage \u00e0 une connaissance qui porte le pr\u00e9nom Septime\u2026<\/p>\n<\/div>
