J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 Gynacantha membranalis au Panama<\/a> o\u00f9 l’on trouvera d’autres photos. Malheureusement cette fois, ce m\u00e2le se trouvait bien en hauteur, dans l’ombre de la for\u00eat, impossible de l’approcher, ni d’avoir une vue de profil.
Et c’est tr\u00e8s dommage, car il est tout \u00e0 fait spectaculaire avec les couleurs vives, bleues et vertes contrastant avec la tache basale alaire tr\u00e8s sombre. Noter la finesse de la nervation et celle des premiers segments abdominaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selon Dennis Paulson et William Haber (1) il atteint 80 mm avec une aile post\u00e9rieure de 55 mm et la tache alaire basale lui donne le nom anglais de Dark-saddled Darner.
En journ\u00e9e, il reste pendant \u00e0 un rameau ou \u00e0 une feuille, en for\u00eat, parfois assez bas. Il n’est vraiment actif que l’apr\u00e8s-midi jusqu’\u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit o\u00f9 on peut le voir se nourrir en groupe. On peut trouver ses larves dans les phytotelmes (trous d’eau dans les arbres), mais \u00e9galement dans les mares foresti\u00e8res peu profondes, qui se remplissent \u00e0 la saison des pluies.

On le rencontre de l’extr\u00eame sud du Nicaragua \u00e0 la Bolivie, le long de l’ouest de l’Am\u00e9rique du Sud, et au nord du continent jusqu’en Guyane Fran\u00e7aise.

Gynacantha<\/strong><\/em> est form\u00e9 de 2 mots grecs signifiant \u00ab femelle ou femme \u00bb et \u00ab \u00e9pine \u00bb soulignant l’\u00e9pine<\/em> que l\u2019on observe sous le 10\u00b0 segment abdominal des femelles des esp\u00e8ces de ce genre.

Membranalis<\/strong>, sans doute du latin membrana<\/em> pour membrane<\/em> et alis<\/em>, un suffixe qui marque l’appartenance, la d\u00e9pendance. Je n’ai pas eu la possibilit\u00e9 de lire la description de Karsch, mais je suppose qu’il se r\u00e9f\u00e8re ainsi \u00e0 la coloration de la partie basale de la membrane alaire, sp\u00e9cifique de l’esp\u00e8ce.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
