Phoenicagrion flammeum a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit par Selys sous le nom de Leptagrion flammeum. Williamson (1917) l’a plac\u00e9 dans le genre Aeolagrion, puis Natalia von Ellenrieder (1) a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre Phoenicagrion pour cette esp\u00e8ce et une qu’elle a d\u00e9crit \u00e0 cette occasion, Phoenicagrion paulsoni.
Ces Phoenicagrion ont pour caract\u00e9ristique parmi les Coenagrionidae de ne pas porter de coloration noire sur le thorax (ligne noire sur les sutures, coloration noire sur l’arri\u00e8re de la t\u00eate ou le pronotum), d’avoir une bande ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale bleue et une tache oblique de la m\u00eame couleur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans la zone que nous avons prospect\u00e9e, au moins un autre Phoenicagrion est connu, P. trilobum ; on peut cependant facilement s\u00e9parer les deux esp\u00e8ces par la couleur de leurs yeux, ceux de P. trilobum<\/a> \u00e9tant spectaculairement stri\u00e9s horizontalement de trois couleurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selys nous dit que l’abdomen de la femelle mesure 33 mm, ce qui donne une taille totale d’environ 40 mm.

Nous n’avons rencontr\u00e9 qu’une seule femelle, assez bri\u00e8vement et en hauteur, dans une zone toute proche des b\u00e2timents de l’Amazon Research Center, dans une zone m\u00ealant ombre et lumi\u00e8re.

Contrairement \u00e0 P. trilobum qui n’est connu que de la r\u00e9serve de Tamshiyacu-Tahuayo, cette esp\u00e8ce est largement r\u00e9pandue en Am\u00e9rique du Sud : Colombie, Venezuela, P\u00e9rou, Guyana et Br\u00e9sil.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Phoenicagrion<\/strong> (1) ; Natalia von Ellenrieder explique qu’elle a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre \u00e0 partir du du grec phoinicos<\/em> qui signifie rouge<\/em> et de agrion<\/em>, un nom neutre translitt\u00e9r\u00e9 du grec agrios<\/em> – utilis\u00e9 pour de nombreux noms de Coenagrionidae signifiant \u00ab\u00a0ce qui est vivant dans les champs, \u00e0 l’\u00e9tat sauvage\u00a0\u00bb. Elle souligne que c’est aussi une \u00ab\u00a0All\u00e9gorie au mythologique Phoenix, oiseau rouge dor\u00e9, toujours unique et renaissant de ses cendres, se r\u00e9f\u00e9rant aux couleurs singuli\u00e8res rouges et orange de P. flammeum et P. paulsoni, et \u00e0 P. flammeum, \u00ab\u00a0renaissant\u00a0\u00bb p\u00e9riodiquement dans des genres diff\u00e9rents.
Flammeum<\/strong>, du latin flammeus<\/em>, qui signifie – de flamme, brillant<\/em>. Selys ne donne pas d’explication lorsqu’il d\u00e9crit un \u00ab\u00a0semi-adulte\u00a0\u00bb. Il insiste sur la coloration rousse, \u00ab\u00a0rouss\u00e2tre clair vari\u00e9 de bronz\u00e9\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0prothorax roux\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0thorax roux\u00a0\u00bb, \u00ab\u00a0abdomen… roux jaun\u00e2tre\u00a0\u00bb et c’est sans doute cette couleur qui lui fait penser \u00e0 la couleur d’une flamme. Noter que les m\u00e2les sont de couleur beaucoup plus vive que la femelle que j’ai photographi\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
