Orthemis anthracina est rarement rencontr\u00e9 ; avant notre prospection, il n’y avait que trois observations sur Inaturalist.
Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit par J\u00fcrg Demarmels (1) depuis l’extr\u00eame sud du Venezuela et il ressemble beaucoup \u00e0 O. cultriformis<\/a>, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement beaucoup plus commun et \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent sur notre zone. Il appartient au groupe levis<\/em> (Orthemis levis<\/a>), qui regroupe ces Orthemis \u00e0 l’abdomen fin.
Nous n’avons aper\u00e7u O. cultriformis que sur la Terra Firme, alors que O. anthracina est un cadeau de derni\u00e8re minute, lors de la derni\u00e8re matin\u00e9e de prospection, \u00e0 faible distance du lodge de Tahuayo, sur un ruisseau forestier. Et donc sur des terres inond\u00e9es par les crues saisonni\u00e8res de l’Amazone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son abdomen est plus fin (moins large), mais plus dilat\u00e9 dorso-ventralement sur les premiers segments que ceux de O. cultriformis et O. flavopicta desquels il est tr\u00e8s proche. Il s’agit, ici, d’un sujet bien mature, dont les bandes claires du thorax sont obscurcies et qu’on peut imaginer en regardant celle de la femelle plus bas.
L’identification absolue se fait sur la forme de la lame supraanale, \u00e9piprocte, qui est courte et presque bifide. Il ne devient pas non plus pruineux sur le thorax comme O. cultriformis<\/a> (ici au Br\u00e9sil).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure 41 mm hors appendices anaux.

Si je n’avais eu que ces seules photos (sans photo des appendices anaux), j’aurais eu du mal \u00e0 \u00eatre confiant dans l’identification ; heureusement, nous l’avons observ\u00e9 sur ce petit ruisseau surveillant une femelle en ponte ; et pour celle-ci, l’identification ne fait pas de doute, en raison du motif abdominal.
Noter l’importante expansion ventrale qu’elle porte sur son 8 \u00b0 segment abdominal ; il joue un r\u00f4le d’\u00e9cope dans la ponte, permettant, lorsque la femelle frappe l’eau avec son abdomen, de projeter de l’eau afin d’\u00e9viter la dessication lorsque les \u0153ufs atteignent la berge. C’est une structure commune parmi les Orthemis et les Orthetrum (et quelques autres genres) et j’avais pu mieux observer une femelle O. discolor<\/a> se livrant \u00e0 cet exercice au Panama, ou Orthetrum brunneum<\/a> en France.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orthemis anthracina est peu observ\u00e9, mais sa distribution est large puisqu’on le contacte au P\u00e9rou, en Colombie, au Venezuela, a Trinidad et Tobago, au Suriname et jusqu’en Guyane Fran\u00e7aise.

Photographier une femelle en ponte, en for\u00eat, est un tour de force, pas toujours r\u00e9ussi… mais la photo ci-dessous montre en tout cas son abdomen caract\u00e9ristique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Orthemis<\/strong>, du grec\u00a0ortho<\/em>, \u2013droit<\/em>\u00a0et de Themis, la d\u00e9esse de L\u2019Ordre et de la Justice, fr\u00e9quemment<\/span> utilis\u00e9 pour nommer des Libellulidae, par imitation de ce que faisaient les anciens en utilisant des noms issus de la mythologie. On lit dans Hagen (1861) qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre :\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0Le premier secteur du triangle rectiligne [droit]\u00a0\u00ab\u00a0, une caract\u00e9ristique du genre.
Anthracina<\/strong>, du latin anthracinus<\/em>, qui signifie noir<\/em>. J\u00fcrg Demarmels m’a pr\u00e9cis\u00e9 pourquoi il avait nomm\u00e9 ainsi cette esp\u00e8ce : \u00ab\u00a0Mes exemplaires sont presque totalement noirs\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
