Selys a d\u00e9crit cette esp\u00e8ce sous le nom de genre Heterogomphus et c’est Laidlaw, en 1940, qui l’a rattach\u00e9e au genre Megalogomphus cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Campion en 1923.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’esp\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite \u00e0 partir d’une femelle, le m\u00e2le \u00e9tant encore inconnu, et Selys donne 58 mm pour son abdomen ce qui correspond \u00e0 une longueur totale d’environ 80 mm.
Nous n’avons pas vu l’esp\u00e8ce pos\u00e9e et cette femelle en ponte, on voit tr\u00e8s bien la masse des \u0153ufs sous ses derniers segments abdominaux, arpentait les berges de cette rivi\u00e8re<\/a> pr\u00e8s de Cao Bang en qu\u00eate d’un lieu satisfaisant pour y \u00ab\u00a0jeter\u00a0\u00bb sa descendance.
Il ne semble pas commun et l’IUCN rel\u00e8ve que les mentions de sa pr\u00e9sence sont longtemps rest\u00e9es rares en dans le sud de la Chine mais il ne semble pas si rare au Vietnam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n
