Depuis sa description par Selys comme Pseudagrion approximans cette esp\u00e8ce a connu de nombreuses aventures et, de ce fait, il a de nombreux synonymes : Pseudagrion approximans (Selys, 1876), Aciagrion tillyardi (Laidlaw, 1919), Enallagma assamica (Fraser, 1919), Aciagrion hisopa krishna (Fraser, 1921) (1).
C’est un genre difficile, surtout par le fouillis taxinomique r\u00e9sultant de la description de Selys sous le nom de Pseudagrion approximans, \u00e0 partir d’un sujet incomplet (il manquait les derniers segments), de provenance inconnue et aujourd’hui disparu… Devant cette incertitude, il a \u00e9t\u00e9 appel\u00e9 indiff\u00e9remment A. tillyardi ou approximans, mais Kosterin et al. (2) ont red\u00e9crit l’esp\u00e8ce \u00e0 partir d’un n\u00e9otype<\/a> de la collection Selys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est tr\u00e8s particulier par la coloration violette de son thorax, qui a tendance \u00e0 dispara\u00eetre sous la pruinosit\u00e9 qui envahi la partie inf\u00e9rieure de son thorax et des premiers segments. Il mesure 31 mm.
Le motif qu’il porte sur la t\u00eate est \u00e9galement original, associant des taches postoculaires grossi\u00e8rement rectangulaires \u00e0 une ligne les joignant.
Ses yeux sont tricolores, sombres en haut, vert clair en bas et porte une bande m\u00e9diane vert olive, elle-m\u00eame parfois assombrie dans sa partie inf\u00e9rieure, comme le sujet de la premi\u00e8re photo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles sont tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rentes et heureusement, nous avons pu voir quelques tandems pour confirmer leur identit\u00e9. Elles portent cependant le m\u00eame type de taches postoculaires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On les observe sur les mares et \u00e9tangs, voire des eaux tr\u00e8s faiblement courantes. Pour nous, il s’agit d’une mare entour\u00e9e de for\u00eat \u00e0 1500 m\u00e8tres d’altitude (18\u00b030’54.9″N 98\u00b031’47.0″E<\/a>) :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend de l’est de l’Inde au sud de la Chine. Le site de l’IUCN n’est pas \u00e0 jour, car la re-description de l’esp\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 faite en 2014, et l’\u00e9valuation pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e remonte \u00e0 2010.
En anglais, il prend le nom de Violet slim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/span>
Aciagrion (3) du grec akis<\/em> pour objet pointu, aiguille, <\/em>et de agrion, du grec\u00a0agrios<\/em>\u2013\u00a0sauvage<\/em>, vivant dans les champs. Selys qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre en 1891 insiste ainsi sur la forme de l’abdomen :\u00a0\u00bb Abdomen long, excessivement gr\u00eale.\u00a0\u00bb
Approximans, du latin approximans<\/em> qui signifie approchant<\/em>, et Selys, en le d\u00e9crivant sous le nom de Pseudagrion approximans le trouvait tr\u00e8s proche de Pseudagrion microcephalum<\/a>. Il faut se rappeler, car cette comparaison peut sembler bien \u00e9tonnante, que les descriptions de Selys se faisaient sur des sujets morts, dont la coloration avait consid\u00e9rablement chang\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
