Nous n’avons eu qu’une rencontre avec Petaliaeschna tomokunii, tard dans l’apr\u00e8s-midi, presque \u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit \u00e0 Pia Oac, \u00e0 une altitude de 1240 m. Cette femelle pondait dans un fouillis d’herbes et de buissons entrem\u00eal\u00e9s, sur une pierre recouverte de mousse, parcourue par un filet d’eau, dans une sorte de clairi\u00e8re le long d’un chemin forestier, \u00e0 la sortie d’une petite for\u00eat de bambous<\/a> dont on devine d’ailleurs les feuilles au sol.
Elle fr\u00e9quente d’ailleurs les petits ruisseaux de montagne ombrag\u00e9s et les zones foresti\u00e8res humides \u00e0 haute altitude (souvent autour de 1 000 \u00e0 1 500 m\u00e8tres)

Je n’ai pas eu acc\u00e8s \u00e0 la description originale de Karube (2000) (\u00e0 partir de sujets de Pia Oac) mais Tom Kompier sur son blog<\/a> pr\u00e9cise qu’elle ressemble beaucoup \u00e0 une autre esp\u00e8ce aussi pr\u00e9sente sur le m\u00eame biotope, P. flavipes, cette derni\u00e8re montrant sans doute une activit\u00e9 un peu moins tardive. P. tomokunii a aussi les pattes jaunes mais se distingue de sa cousine par le fait que sa face est jaune orang\u00e9e alors que celle de P. flavipes est plus sombre et montre sur le front une vague marque sombre en forme de \u00ab\u00a0T\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elle mesure sans doute dans les 65 -70 mm, mais dans les conditions o\u00f9 je l’ai observ\u00e9e, je suis incapable d’\u00eatre plus pr\u00e9cis.
Petaliaeschna tomokunii est actuellement consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme end\u00e9mique du Vietnam et n’est m\u00eame connu que de cette r\u00e9serve de Pia Oac.

Petaliaeschna<\/strong> (Fraser, 1927) de petalos<\/em> en grec<\/em> qui signifie d\u00e9ploy\u00e9<\/em>, \u00e9tal\u00e9 en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la forme des appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs et Fraser lorsqu’il red\u00e9crit l’esp\u00e8ce en 1936 \u00e9crit : \u00a0\u00bb Anal appendages : superiors longer than segments 9 and 10, narrow at base, then broadly dilated<\/strong><\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. Pourtant en 1927 il \u00e9crivait \u00e0 propos de ces appendices anaux \u00ab\u00a0Slightly dilated at the middle\u00a0\u00bb…
Aeschna est un cas particulier dans l\u2019\u00e9tymologie des noms d\u2019odonates. Il est ici \u00e9crit dans sa version\u00a0corrig\u00e9e<\/em>, et on a, en Europe, l\u2019habitude de l\u2019\u00e9crire sans \u00ab\u00a0c\u00a0\u00bb, la version de Fabricius (1775) qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le nom de genre Aeshna.
On suppose, car il ne l\u2019a pas pr\u00e9cis\u00e9, que Fabricius a form\u00e9 ce nom depuis un mot grec signifiant\u00a0d\u00e9figurer<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0ternir<\/em>\u00a0(pourquoi, c\u2019est une autre \u00e9nigme ?) ; mais Fabricius est un puriste et on ne peut expliquer cette absence de \u00ab\u00a0c \u00a0\u00bb que par une erreur de transcription ou une erreur typographique.
L\u2019absence de ce \u00ab\u00a0c\u00a0\u00bb n’est rest\u00e9e la norme que pour le genre Aeshna et tous les \u00ab\u00a0compos\u00e9s\u00a0\u00bb cr\u00e9\u00e9s \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque\u00a0moderne<\/em>\u00a0l\u2019ont int\u00e9gr\u00e9.
Tomokunii<\/strong> est un hommage \u00e0 l’entomologiste japonais Masaaki Tomokuni, qui a collect\u00e9 une grande partie du mat\u00e9riel de recherche lors d’exp\u00e9ditions au Vietnam dans les ann\u00e9es 90.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
