Ce Phyllocycla sp. (Gomphidae) est un myst\u00e8re : \u00e0 chaque fois que nous avons pris la pirogue, nous l’avons aper\u00e7u, en vol, ou pos\u00e9 sur les branches qui \u00e9mergeaient, en ce temps de tr\u00e8s basses eaux. J’ai bien s\u00fbr fait quelques photos en vol, mais nous avons surtout essay\u00e9 de nous en approcher, ce qui n’est pas facile ; il est craintif et une pirogue, m\u00eame moteur coup\u00e9 avec 6 ou 7 individus \u00e0 bord, n’est pas tellement discr\u00e8te. De plus, il faut sans cesse compenser la d\u00e9rive et le balancement provoqu\u00e9 par 6 prospecteurs avides de nouveaut\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les photos ne sont pas parfaites, mais avec huit rencontres diff\u00e9rentes, j’ai finalement r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 le voir sous tous les angles, ce qui devrait permettre son identification. Je n’ai malheureusement pas de vue sup\u00e9rieure des appendices anaux, mais une vue lat\u00e9rale est correcte et les motifs thoraciques complexes sont bien visibles.
Noter l’expansion ventrale du huiti\u00e8me segment, \u00e0 peine marqu\u00e9e sur le neuvi\u00e8me qui porte un ergot sur sa face dorsale. Les appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs, cerques<\/a>, deux fois plus longs que les inf\u00e9rieurs, sont recourb\u00e9s vers le haut \u00e0 leur extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 et portent, en dessous, en leur milieu, une \u00e9pine dirig\u00e9e vers l’arri\u00e8re.
Noter \u00e9galement la touffe de soies qui s’\u00e9chappe de l’espace interoculaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le plus surprenant, c’est que ce Phyllocycla n’a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 vu par aucun prospecteur dans cette r\u00e9gion, alors qu’il nous apparaissait tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9sent, tr\u00e8s visible sur ces supports \u00e9mergents de la rivi\u00e8re, pendant les 15 jours de notre prospection.
J’ai eu beau chercher dans la litt\u00e9rature, il est tr\u00e8s difficile de trouver des dessins ou photos des appendices anaux des 31 Phyllocycla connus actuellement, je n’y suis pas parvenu. De plus, il est fort possible que cette esp\u00e8ce ne soit pas connue et encore non d\u00e9crite.
C’est un genre tr\u00e8s difficile, car les esp\u00e8ces (sauf au moins P. gladiata<\/a>, beaucoup plus commun) sont rarement aper\u00e7ues ; elles vivent sur les rivi\u00e8res des for\u00eats denses, sont difficiles \u00e0 capturer et les femelles, que l’on aper\u00e7oit seulement lors de la ponte, restent souvent inconnues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est un odonate spectaculaire et imposant et je pense qu’il doit fr\u00f4ler les 60 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phyllocycla<\/strong> (1) ; du grec phyllo<\/em>, pour feuille<\/em> et kyklos<\/em>, pour cercle ou rond, en rapport avec la forme arrondie de l’expansion foliac\u00e9e du huiti\u00e8me segment.
Mais ce nom de genre d\u00fb \u00e0 Calvert (1948) (2) est une anagramme du genre cr\u00e9\u00e9 par S\u00e9lys (3) sous le nom de Cyclophylla et qui \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 occup\u00e9<\/em> par un genre de m\u00e9duse (ce genre n’existe plus et a \u00e9t\u00e9 remplac\u00e9 par Periphylla !).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
