Burmargiolestes melanothorax est un Rhipidolestidae dont le genre (Kennedy, 1925) ne renferme qu’une seule autre esp\u00e8ce, B. laidlawi, qui est encore plus rare. Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit par Selys (1), sous le nom d’Argiolestes melanothorax.
Noter les f\u00e9murs clairs et les tibias orang\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il ressemble \u00e0 une autre Rhipidolestidae, Agriomorpha fusca<\/a>, qui n’est cependant pas pr\u00e9sent en Tha\u00eflande, mais s’en distingue par l’absence de coloration claire sur les deux derniers segments.
Selon Asahina (2), il mesure 47 mm au total, avec une aile post\u00e9rieure de 27 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selys a d\u00fb avoir en main un sujet d\u00e9color\u00e9 par la mise en collection ou un individu tr\u00e8s vieux, car il \u00e9crit \u00ab\u00a0Thorax en entier noir luisant<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0, n\u00e9gligeant les deux ou trois courtes lignes jaunes \u00e0 l’arri\u00e8re du thorax et les bandes ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale partielles, qui s’att\u00e9nuent certainement en vieillissant.
Noter le contraste spectaculaire entre sa face jaune vif et le reste du corps noir ou sombre. Et les gouttes d’eau que porte cet individu, la pluie ne nous a pas \u00e9pargn\u00e9 non plus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous les avons rencontr\u00e9s, cette fois<\/a> pr\u00e8s d’une petite chute d’eau et de son ruisseau \/ torrent, la zone montrant diff\u00e9rentes sources ou suintements tr\u00e8s \u00e0 l’ombre de la for\u00eat, d’autant que le soleil \u00e9tait absent.

Nous avons eu la chance sur diff\u00e9rents sites de rencontrer plusieurs femelles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elles sont dot\u00e9es d’un lourd et spectaculaire ovipositeur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’esp\u00e8ce se distribue au nord du Vietnam, du Laos et de la Tha\u00eflande, et au Myanmar. Elle n’est peut-\u00eatre pas rare, mais s\u00fbrement difficile \u00e0 rep\u00e9rer avec sa coloration sombre et son comportement qui lui fait appr\u00e9cier l’ombre dense.

Elles sont aussi peu color\u00e9es que les m\u00e2les, en particulier leur face est beaucoup plus terne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burmargiolestes<\/strong> ; on reconna\u00eet le mot Burma utilis\u00e9 par les colonisateurs anglais pour se r\u00e9f\u00e9rer \u00e0 la Birmanie ou maintenant Myanmar. C’est dans ce pays que l’holotype a \u00e9t\u00e9 captur\u00e9 par Leonardo Fea.
On ne sait pas pourquoi Selys a utilis\u00e9 la composition –Argiolestes<\/em>, qui est issue de la racine agrion<\/em>, comme dans agriocnemis<\/em> ou argiocnemis<\/em><\/a> (voir l\u2019\u00e9tymologie de ce nom) et de lestes<\/em>, qui vient d\u2019un mot grec signifiant pirate (si Leach, en 1815, n’a pas expliqu\u00e9 le choix de ce terme, on pense que c’est par analogie de forme entre les appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs (cerques) et le coutelas arqu\u00e9 des pirates. Il est tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant de lire \u00e0 ce sujet l\u2019analyse, sans doute d\u00e9finitive, faite par Matti H\u00e4m\u00e4l\u00e4inen & Heinrich Fliedner (Why did William Elford Leach call a small damselfly a \u00ab pirate \u00bb ? \u2013 Revisiting the etymology of the genus Lestes (Odonata: Lestidae), Matti H\u00e4m\u00e4l\u00e4inen & Heinrich Fliedner, Notulae odonatologicae 10(1) 2023:8-16.)). Mais l\u2019introduction de lestes dans le nom de genre est sans doute explicable en raison de leur fa\u00e7on, pour certains, de se poser ailes ouvertes.
Melanothorax<\/strong> est plus simple, du grec ancien melas<\/em> ou melanos<\/em> qui signifie noir<\/em> et de thorax<\/em> qu’il n’est pas besoin d’expliquer. Selys (1) insite sur la coloration du thorax : \u00a0\u00bb La melanothorax diff\u00e8re de toutes les autres esp\u00e8ces par le thorax noir\u00e2tre sans bandes jaunes…<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
