Aeschnophlebia samurai, pourtant tr\u00e8s r\u00e9cemment d\u00e9crit, apr\u00e8s notre s\u00e9jour au Vietnam, a d\u00e9j\u00e0 chang\u00e9 de genre, car il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit sous le nom de Planaeschna (1). C’est un genre qui a subi plusieurs modifications et Oleg Kosterin lui a consacr\u00e9 une publication en 2023 (2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Aeschnophlebia<\/a>

C’est la premi\u00e8re fois que je rencontre un repr\u00e9sentant de ce genre ; il y en a au moins une douzaine au Vietnam (36 sont connus en Asie (2)(4) en septembre 2024), d’autres seront certainement d\u00e9couverts et d’autres feront l’objet de synonymies, car leurs motifs thoraciques et abdominaux sont tr\u00e8s semblables et rien n’est connu de leur variabilit\u00e9 g\u00e9ographique ; le S2 (deuxi\u00e8me segment) porte cependant un motif qui permettrait souvent de les s\u00e9parer de fa\u00e7on fiable.
Ils sont pour la plupart rarement observ\u00e9s en raison de leurs habitudes cr\u00e9pusculaires et de leur habitat forestier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ici, le contact a \u00e9t\u00e9 rendu plus facile du fait que c’est un sujet \u00e9mergent, sans doute arriv\u00e9 ici lors de son vol inaugural<\/a>.

L’abdomen de la femelle, appendices anaux compris, mesure de 49,6 \u00e0 55 mm (47 \u00e0 52,8 mm pour le m\u00e2le) et elle atteint donc une longueur totale d’environ 67 mm.
Aeschnophlebia samurai est actuellement consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme end\u00e9mique du nord du Vietnam, et n’est connu que des r\u00e9gions de Cao Bang et de Yen Bai. Il pourrait cependant \u00eatre pr\u00e9sent en Chine. L’IUCN ne le conna\u00eet sous aucun de ses deux noms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/span>
Le genre Aeschnophlebia a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit par Selys, 1883, pour A. optata (maintenant A. milnei), du Japon. La premi\u00e8re partie du nom rappelle son appartenance \u00e0 la famille des Aeshnidae, la seconde vient du grec phleb<\/em>\u00a0 signifiant veine<\/em> ou relatif aux veines<\/em> pour indiquer une particularit\u00e9 de la nervation (veination) de ce genre et par analogie avec le genre Staurophlebia (Brauer, 1865). Selys insiste en effet dans sa description sur \u00ab\u00a0Nervure sous-costale prolong\u00e9e (tout au moins aux ailes sup\u00e9rieures) au-del\u00e0 de la veine du nodus (qu\u2019elle traverse) jusqu’\u00e0 la premi\u00e8re nervule postcubitale<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb puis \u00ab\u00a0Le caract\u00e8re singulier de la nervure sous-costale prolong\u00e9e au-del\u00e0 de la veine du nodus, sur lequel le Dr Brauer a fond\u00e9 son genre Staurophlebia, est tr\u00e8s exceptionnel chez les Odonates.<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0
Mais quand Selys d\u00e9crit ce genre, il y int\u00e8gre trois esp\u00e8ces, toutes trois pr\u00e9sentent bien s\u00fbr ce caract\u00e8re singulier. <\/em>Mais, tr\u00e8s mauvais hasard, l’exemplaire de A. optata d\u00e9crit pas Selys est absolument unique, en ce sens que tous les autres sujets examin\u00e9s ult\u00e9rieurement ne pr\u00e9sentent pas cette veine costale prolong\u00e9e. De plus, les deux autres esp\u00e8ces d\u00e9crites, pour lesquelles ce caract\u00e8re est stable, ont chang\u00e9 de genre…
\u00a0Les Aeschnophlebia actuels, au sens de O. Kosterlin (qui n’est d’ailleurs pas d’accord avec l’\u00e9tymologie que je propose pour des raisons qui m’\u00e9chappent) ne montrent pas cette veine costale d\u00e9passant le nodus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’\u00e9tymologie de samurai<\/em> est expliqu\u00e9e par les auteurs : \u00ab\u00a0l’esp\u00e8ce prend son nom du motif de la face dorsale du S2 qui rappelle le caract\u00e8re japonais <\/em>\u201c\u58eb\u201d qui signifie samoura\u00ef. Nom en apposition.<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
