C'est en aval des chutes de la rivi\u00e8re Mae Klang, en suivant les berges, que nous avons rencontr\u00e9 2 ou 3 Heliogomphus selysi. Il appartient \u00e0 un genre d\u00e9crit par Laidlaw et compte actuellement 21 esp\u00e8ces, mais une seule actuellement d\u00e9crite en Tha\u00eflande, bien que deux Heliogomphus sp. soient mentionn\u00e9s, l'un au sud, dans la province de Trat et l'autre de celle de Chiang Mai, du parc National Do Inthanon (communication de Noppadon Makbun).
L'identification ne pose donc pas de probl\u00e8mes\u2026 \u00e0 partir du moment o\u00f9 l'on sait que c'est un Heliogomphus, en remarquant les cerques (ex-cerco\u00efdes<\/a>) caract\u00e9ristiques en forme de lyre.
Mais l'examen des appendices anaux permis par la patience de ces sujets ne laisse pas de doute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les motifs thoraciques sont tr\u00e8s proches de ceux des Heliogomphus observ\u00e9s au Vietnam, il y a quelques ann\u00e9es, H. scorpio<\/a> et H. bidentatus<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure, selon Fraser, 32 \u00e0 35 mm pour l'abdomen, soit une taille totale d'environ 57 mm.
Il habite les rivi\u00e8res de montagne et sa larve se d\u00e9veloppe dans leurs endroits calmes (pools) sur la liti\u00e8re. Il est consid\u00e9r\u00e9 comme rare.
Sa distribution le limite \u00e0 la Tha\u00eflande, \u00e0 l'est de l'Inde (Meghalaya) et au Myanmar. IUCN Red List<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heliogomphus (2) (Laidlaw, 1922), du grec helios<\/em> pour soleil,<\/em> et de Gomphus, qui vient, aussi, d\u2019un mot grec qui signifie\u00a0cheville<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0boulon<\/em>, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la forme dilat\u00e9e de l\u2019abdomen \u00e0 l'apex (de la plupart des esp\u00e8ces), qui ressemble \u00e0 une\u00a0cheville pour assembler les bateaux<\/em>. Laidlaw n'explique pas la r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au soleil ou \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re, et l'attirance de cette esp\u00e8ce pour les zones ensoleill\u00e9es de for\u00eat n'est certainement pas exceptionnelle.
Selysi est bien s\u00fbr un hommage au baron Edmond S\u00e9lys de Longchamps, homme d'\u00c9tat et entomologiste Belge, grand sp\u00e9cialiste des odonates, \u00e0 qui l'on doit une immense collection et le plus grand nombre de descriptions de l'histoire de nos libellules. L'esp\u00e8ce qui sert de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au genre Heliogomphus (g\u00e9notype), H. nietneri, avait \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment d\u00e9crite par Selys sous le nom de Leptogomphus nietneri.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
