La ressemblance de ce Phaenandrogomphus tonkinicus m\u00e2le avec nos Onychogomphus<\/a> (ici O. forcipatus) europ\u00e9en est assez \u00e9vidente et Fraser (1) l’avait d’abord plac\u00e9 dans ce genre.
C’est Lieftinck qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre Phaenandrogomphus (2) et y a plac\u00e9 cette esp\u00e8ce. Il a m\u00eame red\u00e9crit l’esp\u00e8ce avec plusieurs sch\u00e9mas en 1968 (3).
Il mesure environ 53 mm.

Il est vrai que sur place, nous l’avons pris pour P. asthenes, tr\u00e8s proche, dont il se diff\u00e9rencie par les appendices anaux, et en particulier la forme terminale de la lame supraanale. Notre excuse est que nous ne l’avons vu qu’en vol, et c’est un coup de chance si une de mes photos, tr\u00e8s agrandie, permet de voir ce d\u00e9tail. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une autre particularit\u00e9 de ce genre, qui permet d’ailleurs de l’identifier, est l’\u00e9norme appareil g\u00e9nital secondaire (genitalia) dont il est dot\u00e9, en particulier le segment basal du p\u00e9nis qui porte 2 \u00e9normes pi\u00e8ces distales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le rencontre dans le sud de la Chine (Hainan, Yunnan, Fujian, Guangdong), en Tha\u00eflande, au Laos et au Vietnam.

Je l’avais plus longuement rencontr\u00e9 au Vietnam<\/a> o\u00f9 l’on trouvera \u00e9galement une femelle et de spectaculaires photos d’accouplement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/span><\/strong>
Phaenadrogomphus<\/strong> est compos\u00e9 de 3 \u00e9l\u00e9ments :
– de phaino<\/em> (\u03c6\u03b1\u03af\u03bd\u03c9), un mot grec qui signifie \u00ab\u00a0montrer<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00a0\u00eatre visible<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0
– du grec andros<\/em> (\u1f00\u03bd\u03ae\u03c1, \u1f00\u03bd\u03b4\u03c1\u03cc\u03c2), signifiant \u00ab\u00a0homme<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb ou \u00ab\u00a0m\u00e2le<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0
– de gomphus, qui vient, aussi, d\u2019un mot grec qui signifie cheville<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0boulon<\/em>, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la forme de l\u2019abdomen (de la plupart des esp\u00e8ces), qui ressemble \u00e0 une\u00a0cheville pour assembler les bateaux<\/em>.
Nous avons donc un Gomphus, qui montre qu’il est un m\u00e2le, certainement en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence aux spectaculaires genitalia sous le 2\u00b0 segment du m\u00e2le, qui montrent aussit\u00f4t son sexe.
Tonkinicus<\/strong> est la forme latinis\u00e9e et adjectivale de Tonkin <\/em>(Nord Vietnam<\/em>) + –icus<\/em>, signifiant provenant de<\/em> ; l’individu d\u00e9crit par Fraser provenant du Tonkin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
