J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 Erythrodiplax attenuata en Colombie<\/a> voisine, et j’y avais fait d’assez m\u00e9diocres photos ; c’est sans doute par souci de ne pas les d\u00e9valoriser que celles-ci ne sont pas beaucoup meilleures et m’ont beaucoup d\u00e9\u00e7u.
C’est pourtant un odonate tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressant, car il pr\u00e9sente deux formes (morphes) pour les m\u00e2les : l’une comme ci-dessus aux ailes color\u00e9es, l’autre aux ailes hyalines, celui que nous avons rencontr\u00e9 le plus souvent au P\u00e9rou.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

D’ailleurs, la forme aux ailes color\u00e9es a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite par Kirby (sous le nom de Trithemis (?) attenuata<\/em>) en 1889, et Sj\u00f6stedt en 1918, a d\u00e9crit un <\/em>Erythrodiplax attenuata forma hyalina<\/em>, mais cette derni\u00e8re forme a \u00e9t\u00e9 synonymis\u00e9e avec la forme nominale. Heureusement, la forme des taches abdominales est vraiment identique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les deux photos ci-dessus ont \u00e9t\u00e9 prises dans une zone plus ou moins mar\u00e9cageuse du lodge de Tahuayo le 15\/08\/2023 ; un sujet aux ailes color\u00e9es, aux yeux devenus verts est pleinement mature, l’autre aux yeux bleus, aux ailes qui resteront hyalines est encore jeune.
Il mesure 30 \u00e0 35 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ils habitent les zones mar\u00e9cageuses, les \u00e9tangs et lacs, c’est une esp\u00e8ce commune dans cette aire.
La distribution de l’esp\u00e8ce est \u00e9tonnante ; s’il est bien pr\u00e9sent au P\u00e9rou, en Colombie et en \u00c9quateur, malgr\u00e9 d’immenses lacunes, il est aussi signal\u00e9 tout au nord du Br\u00e9sil, puis au sud de Rio de Janeiro…

Les femelles sont la copie conforme des m\u00e2les immatures (et vice et versa) pour les motifs abdominaux, ce qui facilite l’identification, car entre une femelle aux ailes hyalines et un m\u00e2le bien mature aux ailes noires, la parent\u00e9 ne serait pas facile \u00e0 \u00e9tablir sur le terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/span><\/strong>
Erythrodiplax<\/strong> (2) (Brauer, 1868) du grec\u00a0erythro<\/em>, signifiant\u00a0rouge<\/em>\u00a0et de\u00a0diplax<\/em>. Diplax (1840) est un nom de genre donn\u00e9 par Charpentier, form\u00e9 par un pr\u00e9fixe signifiant\u00a0deux<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0double\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 et\u00a0plax<\/em>\u00a0qualifiant quelque chose de plat, en accord avec la forme de la partie post\u00e9rieure du pronotum pr\u00e9sentant 2 structures semi-circulaires.
Charpentier ignorait que Newman avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 d\u00e9crit ce genre sous le nom de Sympetrum (1833), et longtemps le genre Diplax est rest\u00e9 en usage ; aussi quand on a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 scinder ce genre, on a conserv\u00e9 le terme\u00a0diplax<\/em>\u00a0dans des noms compos\u00e9s.
Pourquoi avoir qualifi\u00e9 ce\u00a0Diplax<\/em>\u00a0de\u00a0rouge<\/em>\u00a0? L\u2019explication est pour moi assez confuse ; disons que Kirby a retenu\u00a0Erythrodiplax corallina<\/em>, presque totalement rouge, comme l\u2019esp\u00e8ce type du genre Erythrodiplax.
Attenuata<\/strong>, du latin attenuatus<\/em> qui signifie att\u00e9nu\u00e9, amoindri, affin\u00e9<\/em>, se rapporte sans doute \u00e0 la forme de l’abdomen. Kirby \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0Abdomen black, slender, gradually thickened at base and tip – L’abdomen noir, mince, progressivement \u00e9paissi \u00e0 la base et \u00e0 la pointe\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
