Alors que nous rejoignions notre v\u00e9hicule, un de mes compagnons a aper\u00e7u cet odonate (Libellulidae) perch\u00e9 au milieu d’une mare, bien loin de nous. Il me l’a signal\u00e9 et nous avons trouv\u00e9 bizarre, ce que, de loin, nous prenions pour un Crocothemis servilia. En effet, 300 mm de focale plus loin, il s’est av\u00e9r\u00e9 que c’\u00e9tait un m\u00e2le Sympetrum speciosum bien mature.
C’\u00e9tait une esp\u00e8ce purement japonaise et chinoise jusqu’\u00e0 ce que Tom Kompier ne le d\u00e9couvre au Vietnam. Mais Pia Oac n’est qu’\u00e0 un vol de libellule des provinces chinoises du Yunnan et du Guangxi, juste au nord.

La base des ailes est ambr\u00e9e, ce que l’on voit tr\u00e8s peu ici, mais de fa\u00e7on tr\u00e8s variable, ce qui a conduit \u00e0 d\u00e9crire plusieurs sous-esp\u00e8ces, dont aucune n’aurait de l\u00e9gitimit\u00e9…

Il mesure environ 40 \u00e0 45 mm (25 pour l’abdomen) et se rencontre donc au Vietnam et dans le sud de la Chine, du Yunnan \u00e0 Ta\u00efwan (ou on a d\u00e9crit la sous-esp\u00e8ce Sympetrum speciosum taiwanum) jusqu’au Japon d’o\u00f9 il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit dans \u00ab\u00a0Entomological magazine\u00a0\u00bb en 1915, \u00e0 partir d’un sp\u00e9cimen captur\u00e9 pr\u00e8s d’Osaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
