Dythemis rufinervis s’est d’abord appel\u00e9 Libellula rufinervis mais est devenue l’esp\u00e8ce type du genre Dythemis lorsque Hagen a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce genre en 1861. C’est un petit genre de Libellulidae qui ne comprend que sept esp\u00e8ces. Celle-ci est la troisi\u00e8me que je rencontre apr\u00e8s D. sterilis<\/a> et D. nigra<\/a>.
Je n’ai malheureusement aper\u00e7u qu’une seule femelle, pos\u00e9e sur un rameau, sur le bas-c\u00f4t\u00e9 d’une route tr\u00e8s encombr\u00e9e, sans avoir vu de pi\u00e8ce d’eau aux alentours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans le Synopsis<\/em> of the neuroptera<\/em> of North America<\/em>. With a list<\/em> of the South American species<\/em><\/a> de Hermann Hagen on lit p. 162 qu’il mesure 39 mm.
Sa distribution le limite \u00e0 Cuba, les Bahamas, la Jama\u00efque, la R\u00e9publique dominicaine et Porto Rico.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span> (1)
Dythemis<\/strong>, du grec dy, pour deux et de Themis, la d\u00e9esse de L\u2019Ordre et de la Justice,\u00a0fr\u00e9quemment\u00a0utilis\u00e9 pour nommer des Libellulidae, par imitation de ce que faisaient les anciens en utilisant des noms issus de la mythologie. L’adjectif \u00ab\u00a0deux\u00a0\u00bb pourrait se r\u00e9f\u00e9rer \u00e0 la face ventrale du 9\u00b0 segment des femelles qui porte deux tubercules.
Rufinervis<\/strong>, du latin rufus<\/em> pour rouge<\/em> et du latin nervus<\/em> qui signifie tendon<\/em>, ligament<\/em> et tr\u00e8s souvent nervure<\/em> lorsqu’il s’agit d’insectes. Ces nervures rouges sont celles de la partie ant\u00e9rieure des ailes des m\u00e2les, ce que je ne peux que montrer sur une photo de Bert Harris sur iNaturalist<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
