Erythrodiplax justiniana est un des 5 Erythrodiplax de Cuba, assez peu fr\u00e9quent sans doute, mais tout de m\u00eame plus commun que le tr\u00e8s rare et tr\u00e8s \u00e9trange E. bromeliicola dont les larves se d\u00e9veloppent dans l’eau stock\u00e9e \u00e0 la base des feuilles des bromeliac\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est facile \u00e0 identifier et il est difficile de le confondre avec un autre Erythrodiplax \u00e0 Cuba ; le seul autre \u00e0 arborer une large tache alaire basale est E. fervida<\/a>, et son abdomen est rouge. Il est bien plus proche de E. unimaculata<\/a> mais celui-ci n’est pas pr\u00e9sent sur l’\u00eele.
Selys (1) nous dit que Libellula justiniana qu’il appelle aussi la Libellule justinienne mesure 24.5 \u00e0 28 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toutes ces photos sont faites au m\u00eame endroit et au m\u00eame moment, sur une zone de parking non goudronn\u00e9e, presque un terrain vague au bord d’une route passante, \u00e0 environ 150 m de la mer. Ce biotope surprenant aupr\u00e8s duquel, malgr\u00e9 mes recherches, je n’ai pas trouv\u00e9 de pi\u00e8ce d’eau, s’est av\u00e9r\u00e9 le plus riche de mon voyage !
J’ai cependant d\u00e9couvert \u00e0 mon retour que cette zone fait partie du Marais de Zapata, la plus grande zone humide des Cara\u00efbes : l’endroit pr\u00e9cis o\u00f9 je me trouvais \u00e9tait compl\u00e8tement dess\u00e9ch\u00e9 et toute une zone d’herbes hautes et d’arbustes malingres avaient brul\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans Trapero et Naranjo (2) on lit :\u00a0\u00bb G\u00e9n\u00e9ralement, on le trouve sur les lacs et les mares, mais aussi sur les eaux calmes et ombrag\u00e9es des ruisseaux et rivi\u00e8res\u00a0\u00bb.

Si les m\u00eames auteurs nous disent qu’il est largement distribu\u00e9 \u00e0 Cuba (on le trouve dans diff\u00e9rentes zones), le nombre de donn\u00e9es sur iNaturalist est tr\u00e8s faible.
On le trouve des Bahamas \u00e0 Cuba, \u00e0 la Jama\u00efque, en Ha\u00efti, en R\u00e9publique dominicaine et \u00e0 Porto Rico.

Les femelles sont tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rentes et si je ne les avais pas trouv\u00e9es avec les m\u00e2les, j’aurais certainement eu plus de difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 les identifier. On ne retrouve du m\u00e2le que la t\u00e2che alaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Erythrodiplax<\/strong> (3) (Brauer, 1868) du grec\u00a0erythro<\/em>, signifiant\u00a0rouge<\/em>\u00a0et de\u00a0diplax<\/em>. Diplax (1840) est un nom de genre donn\u00e9 par Charpentier, form\u00e9 par un pr\u00e9fixe signifiant\u00a0deux<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0double\u00a0<\/em>\u2013 et\u00a0plax<\/em>\u00a0qualifiant quelque chose de plat, en accord avec la forme de la partie post\u00e9rieure du pronotum pr\u00e9sentant deux structures semi-circulaires.
Charpentier ignorait que Newman avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 d\u00e9crit ce genre sous le nom de Sympetrum (1833), et longtemps le genre Diplax est rest\u00e9 en usage ; aussi quand on a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 scinder ce genre, on a conserv\u00e9 le terme\u00a0diplax<\/em>\u00a0dans des noms compos\u00e9s.
Justininia<\/strong> ; Selys (1) dans le document d\u00e9j\u00e0 cit\u00e9 d\u00e9crit successivement Libellula justina (synonymis\u00e9 avec E. fervida) et Libellula justiniana, qu’il appelle aussi respectivement Libellule justine et Libellule justinienne. Si l’origine du nom de ces 2 esp\u00e8ces semble apparent\u00e9, Selys n’explique pas son choix et peut-\u00eatre ne faut-il y voir que l’habitude de donner des noms en rapport avec l’histoire antique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
