Enallagma cardenium appartient \u00e0 un genre tr\u00e8s riche \u00ab\u00a0aux Am\u00e9riques\u00a0\u00bb et en particulier en Am\u00e9rique du Nord o\u00f9 il compte 37 esp\u00e8ces. Ils pr\u00e9sentent tous la caract\u00e9ristique de notre Enallagma cyathigerum, c’est-\u00e0-dire l’absence de coloration noire qui souligne la suture m\u00e9ta pleurale<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’identification ne pose pas de probl\u00e8me parmi les six Enallagma de Cuba, c’est le seul \u00e0 avoir des tr\u00e8s longs cerques (1), facilement visibles sur toutes les photos, les 3 premiers segments sont bleus et le 2\u00b0 porte un \u00ab\u00a0U\u00a0\u00bb noir. Les segments 8 et 9 sont bleus comme tr\u00e8s souvent chez les Enallagma (E. novaehispaniae<\/a>, E. cyathigerum<\/a>).
D’apr\u00e8s Trapero et Naranjo (2) c’est le zygopt\u00e8re le plus abondant de l’ile.
Il mesure 28 \u00e0 29 mm et vit g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement dans des places \u00e0 l’ombre, pos\u00e9 sur les feuilles ou les rameaux, pr\u00e8s de rivi\u00e8res souvent rapides. Les couples pondent dans les d\u00e9bris flottants ou les radicelles des plantes juste en dessous de la surface (3).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La coloration est variable, les deux sujets ci-dessus sont sans doute plus jeunes, mais on s’assure de l’identification par la longueur des cerques.
Il y avait peut-\u00eatre une vingtaine de m\u00e2les, mais je n’ai aper\u00e7u qu’une femelle (m\u00eame localisation, m\u00eame date).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est largement distribu\u00e9 \u00e0 Cuba, mais on le rencontre aussi en Floride et dans l’extr\u00eame sud-est de l’Alabama. Et selon les auteurs d\u00e9j\u00e0 cit\u00e9s (2), cette pr\u00e9sence en Floride pourrait repr\u00e9senter le d\u00e9but de l’expansion dans le continent nord-am\u00e9ricain.

Assez logiquement, je n’ai trouv\u00e9 cette femelle qu’en m’\u00e9loignant un peu de la rivi\u00e8re, en entrant un peu plus sous les arbres, alors que je cherchais \u00e0 trouver d’autres esp\u00e8ces que celle-ci et Dythemis sterilis. Sans succ\u00e8s.

En am\u00e9ricain, il prend le nom de Purple bluet, ce que l’on comprend bien avec les deux photos ci-dessus.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span> (4)
Enallagma<\/strong>, du grec Enallax \u2013\u00a0altern\u00e9, se succ\u00e9dant<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0Agma<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 fragment qui pourrait \u00e9voquer l\u2019alternance de marques bleues et noires du thorax.
Charpentier a imagin\u00e9 le terme Enallagma comme \u00ab\u00a0changeant\u00a0\u00bb ou peut-\u00eatre \u00ab\u00a0variant\u00a0\u00bb, pour regrouper tous les Coenagrionidae europ\u00e9ens pour lesquels la coloration de l\u2019abdomen des m\u00e2les est bleue avec des marques noires, c\u2019est-\u00e0-dire l\u2019actuel esp\u00e8ce Enallagma\u00a0mais aussi les\u00a0Coenagrion<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0Erythromma lindenii<\/em>. Il voulait que le nom soit compris comme \u00ab\u00a0\u00e0 risque de confusion\u00a0\u00bb en raison de la similarit\u00e9 des esp\u00e8ces. Mais sa proposition est rest\u00e9e sans effet jusqu\u2019\u00e0 la description du genre par Selys en 1876.
Cardenium<\/strong>, certainement de C\u00e1rdenas<\/em>, localit\u00e9 proche de la Havane dont proviennent les premiers sujets, et de –ius, -i, -um<\/em>, pour relatif \u00e0<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>
