Indolestes birmanus est un des quatre Indolestes de Tha\u00eflande, un des 35 que compte actuellement le genre. Il est facile \u00e0 s\u00e9parer des autres par la forme tr\u00e8s sp\u00e9cifique de la large bande ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale noire qui porte trois \u00e9chelons<\/em>. Selys (1) n’a pas r\u00e9ellement fait de description de l’esp\u00e8ce ; il l’a suppos\u00e9e diff\u00e9rente de Lestes divisa en \u00e9crivant : \u00ab\u00a0il existe, imm\u00e9diatement apr\u00e8s la suture hum\u00e9rale, sur les c\u00f4t\u00e9s du thorax, une bande assez large, dont le bord forme, en dehors, en \u00e9chellons [sic] trois angles, \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s comme chez la Lestes colesonis [maintenant Austrolestes colesonis<\/a>] de Nouvelle-Z\u00e9lande\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il avait alors appel\u00e9 cette nouvelle esp\u00e8ce Lestes birmana ; \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, les Lestes \u00e9taient consid\u00e9r\u00e9s comme f\u00e9minins<\/em>, ils sont devenus masculins<\/em> et le birmana<\/em> est devenu birmanus<\/em>.
S\u00e9lys pr\u00e9cise que l’abdomen mesure 30 mm, ce qui donne une longueur totale de 36.8 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 \u00e0 environ 1500 d’altitude, dans une partie mar\u00e9cageuse et bois\u00e9e, le long d’une mare qui nous a r\u00e9v\u00e9l\u00e9 de tr\u00e8s bonnes surprises. Pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment tout au fond de cette photo, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 Chris (\u00e0 droite sur la photo), trouvera Sarsaeschna pramoti !

Jusqu’\u00e0 ce que j’aper\u00e7oive assez r\u00e9cemment (sur Facebook) des photos d’un Indolestes sp., je n’avais pas pris conscience que je connaissais un autre genre que Sympecma (Lestidae aussi) se posant avec les quatre ailes jointes, du m\u00eame c\u00f4t\u00e9<\/em> de l’abdomen. J’avais \u00e9voqu\u00e9 ce d\u00e9tail \u00e0 ce moment sur le groupe \u00ab\u00a0Dragonflies of Thailand<\/a>\u00a0\u00bb sans \u00e9veiller de curiosit\u00e9 notable. Il semble cependant que tous les Indolestes suivent ce comportement, par exemple Indolestes alleni<\/a> ou tenuissimus<\/a> en Australie, ou encore I. peregrinus<\/a> au Guizhou (Chine).
En Europe, pour Sympecma fusca que je connais bien, on invoque un souci de thermor\u00e9gulation ; l’esp\u00e8ce, survivant \u00e0 l’hiver sous forme d’imago affronte des conditions peu favorables et placer ses deux ailes toujours du c\u00f4t\u00e9 oppos\u00e9 au soleil, permet d’exposer l’abdomen au soleil et de le r\u00e9chauffer.
Il est cependant difficile d’\u00e9voquer les rigueurs hivernales dans des zones tropicales ou sub tropicales…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son aire de distribution est relativement incertaine en raison du fait qu’il a \u00e9t\u00e9 consid\u00e9r\u00e9 un temps comme une sous-esp\u00e8ce de Indolestes gracilis. La validit\u00e9 de l’esp\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 act\u00e9e dans la publication de Kosterin et Poggi en 2015 (2).
Il est certainement pr\u00e9sent en Tha\u00eflande et au Myanmar, peut-\u00eatre dans le sud de la Chine (Yunnan), mais pas au Vietnam…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indolestes birmanus est une raret\u00e9 ; sur iNaturalist, on ne trouvait que neuf photos avant notre prospection, dont une seule photo de femelle. Les photos de tandem sont donc l’occasion d’observer que les femelles pr\u00e9sentent globalement les m\u00eames motifs, en particulier sur le thorax ; la diff\u00e9rence essentielle, quand on fait abstraction des appendices anaux et du S2 est l’\u00e9paisseur de l’abdomen de la femelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Indolestes<\/strong> (3) ; du latin indus<\/em>, indien<\/em> + lestes<\/em> : les 3 esp\u00e8ces que Fraser a plac\u00e9es dans ce nouveau genre de Lestidae avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 collect\u00e9es en Inde. Lestes a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Leach (1815) et vient du mot grec \u03bb\u03b7\u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03c3 qui signifie voleur ou pirate, tr\u00e8s vraisemblablement en raison de la forme des appendices anaux qui \u00e9voque le coutelas courb\u00e9 des pirates (4).
Birmanus<\/strong>, est une latinisation de birman<\/em>, pour natif de Birmanie<\/em>, qu’on appelle souvent Myanmar. En effet, l’holotype, le premier individu d\u00e9crit, a \u00e9t\u00e9 captur\u00e9 \u00e0 Puepoli, actuellement Papun, dans l’\u00e9tat de Kayin au Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
