Le genre Brachydiplax compte sept esp\u00e8ces dont trois sont pr\u00e9sentes en Tha\u00eflande ; mais Brachydiplax farinosa se distingue de B. chalybea<\/a>, tr\u00e8s commun, et de B. sobrina<\/a>, que nous n’avons pas rencontr\u00e9, par la pr\u00e9sence de 8 \u00e0 9 nervures ant\u00e9nodales \u00e0 l’aile ant\u00e9rieure (huit sur la photo ci-dessus), contre 7 pour les deux autres esp\u00e8ces.
Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 en plaine, \u00e0 Chiang Mai et de bien loin sur un autre site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le thorax de Brachydiplax chalybea montre des flancs plus ou moins ambr\u00e9s ou marron, comme la base de ses ailes, ceux de Brachydiplax farinosa sont couverts d’une l\u00e9g\u00e8re pruine blanch\u00e2tre \u00e0 maturit\u00e9 et la base des ailes est hyaline. Son abdomen est \u00e9galement couvert d’une pulv\u00e9rulence blanche, alors qu’elle est plut\u00f4t bleu\u00e2tre pour B. chalybea.
Dans l’est de l’Inde, il est appel\u00e9 Emerald-flanked Marsch Hawk, et il est vrai qu’on trouve d’\u00e9tonnantes photos sur lesquelles les faces lat\u00e9rales de son thorax sont presque vertes (un peu comme sur les deux derni\u00e8res photos de cette page). On l’appelle aussi Black-tailed dasher.

Il est aussi d\u00e9crit comme plus petit dans \u00ab\u00a0A Guide to the Dragonflies of Born\u00e9o\u00a0\u00bb (1) ; son aile post\u00e9rieure atteindrait 22-23 mm, celle de B. chalybea 26 \u00e0 28 mm. Les mesures donn\u00e9es dans Odonata of China<\/a> me semblent surprenantes : longueur totale 23-25 mm, abdomen 14-15 mm, ailes post\u00e9rieures 17-18 mm. Pour moi, son aile post\u00e9rieure est certainement plus courte que la longueur totale de l’insecte.
Mais, en tout cas, qu’il soit plus petit que B. chalybea ne fait aucun doute, ce que montre sans contestation possible cette photo qui montre B. farinosa au premier plan et B. chalybea en vol au second plan. B. chalybea para\u00eet beaucoup plus massif !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 sur une zone mar\u00e9cageuse<\/a>, envahie de hautes herbes, form\u00e9e par un ruisseau qui aliment le r\u00e9servoir de Ang Kaeo, \u00e0 Chiang Mai. En compagnie donc de B. chalybea mais aussi d’O. chrysis, d’un rare (pour ce s\u00e9jour !) N. fulvia et de nombreux A. femina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La limite ouest de sa r\u00e9partition correspond \u00e0 l’est de l’Inde et l’arc Himalayen. De l\u00e0, elle s’\u00e9tend \u00e0 travers toute la Chine jusqu’\u00e0 la Mongolie au nord et atteint au sud l’Indon\u00e9sie. L’exemplaire utilis\u00e9 par Kr\u00fcger (2) pour sa description provient de Sumatra.
Je l’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 en Malaisie<\/a>.

\u00c9tymologie<\/span><\/strong>
Brachydiplax<\/strong> (3) :\u00a0brachy<\/em>\u00a0est un terme\u00a0grec<\/em>\u00a0signifiant court et effectivement les odonates de ce genre sont petits.\u00a0Diplax<\/em> est une construction des deux mots Grecs ;\u00a0dis<\/em>\u00a0signifiant\u00a0double<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0plax<\/em>\u00a0se rapportant \u00e0\u00a0toute chose plate et large<\/em>, car la partie post\u00e9rieure du prothorax des odonates de ce genre montre deux lobes semi-circulaires.
Farinosa<\/strong>, du latin farinosus<\/em> qui signifie farineux<\/em>, ce qui est ais\u00e9ment rapport\u00e9 \u00e0 la pulv\u00e9rulence blanche qui le recouvre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
