Aristocypha fenestrella (1) m\u00e2le est un joyau des rivi\u00e8res et, en Tha\u00eflande, son nom vernaculaire anglais souligne la beaut\u00e9 du genre entier<\/em> en le nommant Jewel<\/em> (bijou) et de l’esp\u00e8ce en la comparant au paon ; il est ainsi appel\u00e9 Peacock jewel.
Le m\u00e2le est facile \u00e0 identifier, portant un triangle parfait, rose p\u00e2le ou rose vif, sur la face sup\u00e9rieure du thorax ; selon Laidlaw, sa taille importante serait m\u00eame diagnostique du genre Aristocypha (2). Il exhibe \u00e9galement un graphisme jaune sur les flancs du thorax, mais ce sont bien s\u00fbr ses ailes qui attirent l’attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elles apparaissent variables en fonction des angles d’incidence du regard de l’observateur et de celui de la lumi\u00e8re. Elles sont \u00ab\u00a0fen\u00eatr\u00e9es\u00a0\u00bb mais ces zones qui peuvent para\u00eetre hyalines renvoient une spectaculaire irisation violac\u00e9e, rose et m\u00eame verte, surmont\u00e9es d’un pt\u00e9rostigma parfois rose vif ! Bien s\u00fbr, les nuances et l’intensit\u00e9 de cette irisation \u00e9voluent avec l’\u00e2ge de l’insecte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tout comme le pt\u00e9rostigma qui a tendance \u00e0 se faire tr\u00e8s discret pour les sujets m\u00e2les \u00e2g\u00e9s.

Ce sont des zygopt\u00e8res, ils se posent avec les ailes jointes et il n’est donc pas fr\u00e9quent de pouvoir observer les ailes ant\u00e9rieures, cach\u00e9es par la paire la plus externe et la plus spectaculaire. Comme on le voit sur les photos de gauche issues de H\u00e4m\u00e4l\u00e4inen, Reels & Zhang, 2009 (3), et ci-dessous \u00e0 droite, ces ailes internes<\/em> ont un motif sombre \u00e9tonnant et le bord de fuite de l’aile reste hyalin avec un motif en escalier<\/em>.<\/mark>
Ces motifs sont d’ailleurs variables et diff\u00e9rentes sous-esp\u00e8ces avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crites.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

L’abdomen est parcouru dans sa partie inf\u00e9rieure de petites marques jaunes, plus ou moins marqu\u00e9es. Les pattes sont sombres, mais la face interne des tibias est blanche, presque pruineuse, me semble-t-il. D’ailleurs, les ailes, comme ces faces blanches des pattes, interviennent dans la cour des m\u00e2les aupr\u00e8s des femelles.

On constate \u00ab\u00a0facilement\u00a0\u00bb la pr\u00e9sence d’<\/em>un insecte sur la patte ou les pattes post\u00e9rieures du sujet de la premi\u00e8re photo, c’est beaucoup moins \u00e9vident sur le sujet ci-dessus, et l’agrandissement que j’en ai fait n’apporte pas grand-chose. J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 Aristocypha fenestrella au Vietnam<\/a> en 2018 et surtout en Malaisie en 2013 ; \u00e0 cette premi\u00e8re occasion, j’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 \u00e9tonn\u00e9 de constater la pr\u00e9sence d’un dipt\u00e8re parasite<\/a> sur la face dorsale de son thorax.
Et j’ai cru qu’il en \u00e9tait de m\u00eame ici, alors qu’il s’agit bien d’une fourmi sur ces deux diff\u00e9rents sujets ; tr\u00e8s \u00e9tonnament, ils ont tous les deux un bout de patte coup\u00e9 ! Les fourmis en seraient-elles responsables ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure 29 \u00e0 35 mm avec des ailes tr\u00e8s longues, bien s\u00fbr, de 23 \u00e0 33 mm (4).
On le rencontre en milieu ouvert, g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement pos\u00e9 sur les rochers ou les branches mortes, tr\u00e8s pr\u00e8s des eaux courantes, parfois rapides.

Deux genres sont tr\u00e8s proches, au point que les esp\u00e8ces ont voyag\u00e9 de l’un \u00e0 l’autre et on ne sait pas r\u00e9ellement si la classification actuelle est fix\u00e9e. Ainsi Rambur avait d\u00e9crit cette esp\u00e8ce sous le genre Rhinocypha. Le genre Heliocypha pr\u00eate \u00e9galement \u00e0 confusion.
Tous font partie de la famille des Chlorocyphidae caract\u00e9ris\u00e9e par un abdomen plus court que les ailes et un clypeus dilat\u00e9 et projet\u00e9 en avant (ressemblant \u00e0 un nez !).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 observ\u00e9 un magnifique m\u00e2le immature en Malaisie<\/a>.

Les femelles sont tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rentes des m\u00e2les et sont identifi\u00e9es ou diff\u00e9renci\u00e9es des esp\u00e8ces voisines (et m\u00eame des femelles des genres voisins) par leurs motifs thoraciques complexes dans la partie inf\u00e9rieure. Il faut noter leur abdomen \u00e9norme et le fait qu’elles portent aussi un triangle sur la face dorsale du thorax, mais il n’est pas color\u00e9 int\u00e9rieurement, juste dessin\u00e9 en jaune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles pondent dans les bois morts pourrissant dans l’eau, ici, un tronc enterr\u00e9, presque recouvert de sable, par le courant de la rivi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le rencontre du Myanmar, au sud de la Chine, au Vietnam et dans la p\u00e9ninsule malaisienne.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Aristocypha<\/strong>, du grec arist,-o<\/em>, pour meilleur<\/em>, noble,<\/em> et de cyphos<\/em> pour bossu<\/em> pour \u00e9voquer la curieuse excroissance qu’ils portent sur la face. Laidlaw n’a pas explicit\u00e9 ce nom de genre qu’il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ; la noblesse \u00e9voqu\u00e9e n’a peut-\u00eatre pour but que de souligner la beaut\u00e9 des membres de ce nouveau genre, qui reprend \u00ab\u00a0cypha\u00a0\u00bb, comme quasiment tous les membres de la famille.
Fenestrella<\/strong>\u00a0est un diminutif du latin fenestra,<\/em> qui signifie petite fen\u00eatre. Rambur dans sa description \u00e9voque \u00ab\u00a0les taches transparentes<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0, \u00ab\u00a0les taches vitr\u00e9es<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb des ailes qui \u00e9voquent des petites fen\u00eatres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
