Heliocypha biforata est un magnifique petit Chlorocyphidae qui pr\u00e9sente la singularit\u00e9, comme son cousin H. perforata<\/a> de porter sur la face dorsale du thorax un triangle rose vif (Magenta jewel en anglais), mais accompagn\u00e9 de deux taches en demi lune lat\u00e9ralement \u00e9galement roses, alors qu’elles sont bleues pour H. perforata. Le reste des motifs est bleu sur le thorax et s’accompagne de discr\u00e8tes ponctuations sur les 6 ou 7 premiers segments de l’abdomen ; cette derni\u00e8re caract\u00e9ristique permet de le s\u00e9parer \u00e9galement de son cousin ou ces taches sont beaucoup plus importantes et s’\u00e9tendent jusqu’au neuvi\u00e8me segment (S9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce sont des odonates tr\u00e8s actifs qui se perchent au soleil au-dessus des eaux claires et rapides des ruisseaux ou dans les parties ralenties des plus grandes rivi\u00e8res pour peu qu’il y ait de la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation et des supports. Ils d\u00e9fendent leur territoire en se livrant \u00e0 des joutes a\u00e9riennes spectaculaires, quelques dizaines de centim\u00e8tres au-dessus de l’eau, luttant contre leurs cong\u00e9n\u00e8res : la photo ci-dessous est bien mauvaise, mais on reconna\u00eet facilement les protagonistes gr\u00e2ce \u00e0 leurs abdomens et ici, il s’oppose \u00e0 sous cousin H. perforata (\u00e0 droite).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Il atteint une longueur totale de 25 \u00e0 29 mm.

Sur les deux photos suivantes, on constate la pr\u00e9sence d’une fourmi, tr\u00e8s vraisemblablement du genre Dolichoderus thoracicus, accroch\u00e9 \u00e0 la patte post\u00e9rieure droite de ce sujet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J’ai tent\u00e9 d’agrandir l’image pour comprendre la situation. Pour moi, il n’y a pas de doute, cette fourmi tente de sectionner la patte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On voit tr\u00e8s bien<\/em> la patte prise entre les mandibules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette image m’a bien s\u00fbr rappel\u00e9 ce que j’ai d\u00e9j\u00e0 publi\u00e9 \u00e0 propos d’un autre Chlorocyphidae, Aristocypha fenestrella<\/a>, dont la patte post\u00e9rieure \u00e9tait aussi victime d’une fourmi et auquel il manquait un fragment de patte. Sur place, je n’avais pas remarqu\u00e9 un nombre anormal ou m\u00eame important de fourmis.
Mes recherches ne m’ont pas permis de trouver d’autres cas ; j’ai parcouru sans succ\u00e8s environ 500 photos de H. biforata. Je n’ai rien trouv\u00e9 dans la litt\u00e9rature odonatologique \u00e0 ce sujet.

Sur la photo ci-dessous, on se rend mieux compte des fen\u00eatres<\/em> que pr\u00e9sentent les ailes post\u00e9rieures, noires sur leur tiers distal et qui renvoient un reflet rose ou vert iris\u00e9. Les ailes ant\u00e9rieures sont hyalines sauf \u00e0 leur extr\u00e9mit\u00e9. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je n’ai pas eu la chance de rencontrer de femelles, qui sont surtout observ\u00e9es en ponte, plus rarement seules, ce que j’avais pourtant photographi\u00e9 en Malaisie<\/a>. Les accouplements sont tr\u00e8s rarement rapport\u00e9s. Souvent chez les odonates, les m\u00e2les immatures, comme ci-dessous, sont le reflet fid\u00e8le des femelles ; ce n’est pas le cas dans cette famille (Chlorocyphidae) ou les femelles ont un abdomen tr\u00e8s massif qui \u00e9carte tout risque de confusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend de l’Inde \u00e0 l’extr\u00eame sud de la Chine et Hainan, atteignant au sud la p\u00e9ninsule malaisienne, mais il est absent de Singapour. IUCN Red List<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Heliocypha<\/strong> ; le genre a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Fraser (1949), et cette esp\u00e8ce, nomm\u00e9e auparavant Rhinocypha biseriata par Selys a rejoint le genre. Fraser donne comme crit\u00e8re de ce genre le triangle rose (peach-blossom pink in colour<\/em> soit rose fleur de p\u00eacher) de ces esp\u00e8ces \u00e0 la partie ant\u00e9rieure du m\u00e9sothorax.
On peut supposer (car Fraser ne donne aucune indication) que Helio, du grec\u00a0Helios<\/em>,\u00a0soleil<\/em>, est une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on dont la lumi\u00e8re du soleil irise les ailes. Cypha vient de\u00a0cyphos<\/em>\u00a0qui signifie\u00a0bossu<\/em>\u00a0pour \u00e9voquer la curieuse excroissance qu\u2019ils portent sur la face et qui est une constante pour les genres appartenant aux Chlorocyphidae.
Biforata<\/strong>, du latin bi<\/em> pour deux<\/em> et forata<\/em> pour perc\u00e9<\/em>. Dans sa description (sous le nom de Rhinocypha biforata) Selys ne mentionne pas explicitement deux trous, orifices ou percements<\/em>. Cependant, il \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0La partie brune marqu\u00e9e aux inf\u00e9rieures de deux<\/span> bandes transverses, courb\u00e9es, iris\u00e9es\u202f; la premi\u00e8re entre le nodus et le pt\u00e9rostigma, compos\u00e9e de trois taches entamant l\u2019espace brun en dedans seulement\u202f; la seconde plus large, de quatre ou cinq taches oblongues rapproch\u00e9es, finissant \u00e0 la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du pt\u00e9rostigma.<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
