Brauer (1) d\u00e9crit Cratilla lineata m\u00e2le sous le nom de Orthemis lineata<\/em>, et il est vrai que le m\u00e2le, au stade de la photo ci-dessus, peut faire penser \u00e0 une femelle Orthemis. Mais, et Brauer le mentionne \u00e9galement, il est tr\u00e8s proche de ce qu’il appelle \u00e0 l’\u00e9poque Libellula (Orthemis) congener<\/em>, notre Potamarcha congener<\/a> ; sur ce point, je suis tout fait d’accord, car, sur le terrain, j’ai du mal \u00e0 les s\u00e9parer, quand ils ne sont pas vraiment matures. Ceux que j’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 observ\u00e9s au Vietnam<\/a> \u00e9taient un peu plus matures, plus couverts de pruine sur l’abdomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

H-M Zang en Chine (2) lui donne une taille totale de 45 \u00e0 50 mm, Ngiam & Ng \u00e0 Singapour (3) 46 \u00e0 48 mm.
Il est donn\u00e9 pour habiter les petites mares en for\u00eat, \u00e9ventuellement des mares temporaires, en dessous de 2000 m (2) et les deux auteurs juste cit\u00e9s notent qu’on le rencontre au long des chemins forestiers. Mais, c’est bien sur une mare minuscule<\/a> qu’il r\u00e9gnait en ma\u00eetre, \u00e9tant le seul odonate \u00e0 s’y manifester \u00e0 ce moment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le genre Cratilla est facilement identifi\u00e9 par la tache m\u00e9tallique sur le front et la large ligne claire qui parcourt la car\u00e8ne thoracique, ici Cratilla metallica<\/a> en Malaisie. Cratilla lineata se distingue \u00e9galement par ses yeux gris cap\u00e9s de brun-rouge et les lignes jaunes qui parcourent son abdomen.

C’est un odonate auquel on attribue diff\u00e9rents noms vernaculaires : Pale face forest skimmer au Bangladesh, Emerald banded skimmer (sa pruine prend en effet une teinte verd\u00e2tre) ou Lined-forest skimmer en Inde et \u00e0 Singapour. Et diff\u00e9rentes sous-esp\u00e8ces<\/em> ; C. lineata lineata, C. lineata assidua, C. lineata calverti (qui serait celui pr\u00e9sent en Tha\u00eflande), autant de formes<\/em> explicables par l’immense distribution g\u00e9ographique de l’esp\u00e8ce.

En effet, on le rencontre de l’Inde et du Sri Lanka au sud de la Chine, il atteint au sud Singapour, Born\u00e9o et Sumatra et les Philippines.

Pour l’anecdote, en faisant les recherches pour cet article, j’ai d\u00e9couvert par hasard un article ou Cratilla lineata est cit\u00e9 comme un pollinisateur occasionnel des cucurbitac\u00e9es (3) ! Tout comme Diplacodes nebulosa, Crocothemis servilia et Diplacodes lefebvrii, ceci au Bengale occidental, en Inde. J’imagine que sur tous les continents, de nombreuses esp\u00e8ces se posent accidentellement sur de larges fleurs et assurent une pollinisation accidentelle et marginale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Cratilla<\/strong>\u00a0est un genre cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Kirby (4) et je doute un peu de l\u2019\u00e9tymologie que l\u2019on trouve dans le livre de mon ami Marcus Ng (2). Kirby ne donne pas d\u2019indice et les auteurs proposent que\u00a0Cratilla<\/strong>\u00a0viennent du latin cratis qui signifie treillis ou grille et se r\u00e9f\u00e9rerait \u00e0 la nervation dense ; seulement, et les auteurs le reconnaissent, elle n\u2019est pas vraiment plus dense que pour de nombreux autres Libellulidae, notamment pas plus que des Orthemis dont Kirby les s\u00e9pare.
Lineata<\/strong> (5), du latin\u00a0lineatus<\/em>, pour\u00a0dot\u00e9 de lignes<\/em>, ce qui se r\u00e9f\u00e8re au motif abdominal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
