Ictinogomphus acutus (1) est enfin un Ictinogomphus qui ne pose pas de souci d’identification ; il faut rappeler que ce n’est pas le cas ailleurs en Asie, ou les Ictinogomphus decoratus (pr\u00e9sent \u00e0 Born\u00e9o), rapax<\/a> (ici en Tha\u00eflande) et pertinax<\/a> (ici au Vietnam) posent un probl\u00e8me et sont en attente de r\u00e9vision, car nous sommes maintenant nombreux \u00e0 penser qu’ils ne constituent qu’une seule esp\u00e8ce.
Ses motifs thoraciques, la coloration tr\u00e8s discr\u00e8te de la face dorsale des premiers segments abdominaux et surtout la coloration rouge orang\u00e9 des trois derniers segments permettent de le s\u00e9parer facilement des autres Ictinogomphus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous l’avons observ\u00e9 \u00e0 de nombreuses reprises lors de notre prospection en pirogue sur la rivi\u00e8re Maludam, mais seulement apr\u00e8s environ une demi-heure de navigation, sans doute quand les eaux de la mer font moins sentir leur influence et que les eaux deviennent tourbeuses et plus acides (2). Malheureusement, ce type de prospection est tr\u00e8s frustrant, car m\u00eame avec toute la bonne volont\u00e9 du pilote, il est tr\u00e8s difficile de faire des photos correctes, la discr\u00e9tion d’une pirogue de 6 ou 7 m\u00e8tres est toute relative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les appendices anaux sont spectaculaires pour tout ce genre, mais je trouve que les expansions ventrales du S8 sont encore plus importantes pour cette esp\u00e8ce.
Laidlaw \u00e9crit que l’abdomen et les appendices anaux mesurent 48 mm, ce qui lui donne une longueur totale de 65 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On constate sur les photos que leurs perchoirs favoris ne sont pas vari\u00e9s ; un rameau qui \u00e9merge d’un arbre tomb\u00e9 dans l’eau semble leur convenir \u00e0 merveille pour surveiller leur territoire.

L’esp\u00e8ce est pr\u00e9sente \u00e0 Born\u00e9o sur la p\u00e9ninsule Malaisienne, mais pourrait \u00eatre d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9teinte sur l’ile de Belitung.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Ictinogomphus<\/strong> :  l’\u00e9tymologie est int\u00e9ressante, car Rambur a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre en 1842 (3) sous le nom d\u2019Ictinus<\/em> (Ictinus acutus \u00e9tait pr\u00e9sent dans la collection Selys). Il ignorait (le Web \u00e9tait incomplet et tr\u00e8s lent \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque \ud83d\ude42 ) que ce nom \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 utilis\u00e9 pour un col\u00e9opt\u00e8re et un oiseau. Ce genre d\u2019erreur est cens\u00e9 ne plus arriver, on a mis en place des institutions qui veillent au grain. Cowley en 1834 a rectifi\u00e9 et cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre Ictinogomphus.
Il a combin\u00e9 le nom original Ictinus<\/em> avec gomphus<\/em>. Ictinus<\/em> vient d\u2019un mot grec signifiant cerf-volant<\/em> et Fliedner (2007), qui a apport\u00e9 une aide pr\u00e9cieuse \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9tymologie des odonates, pense que la tr\u00e8s large taille de cet odonate a inspir\u00e9 ce nom. Cependant, et je suis tout \u00e0 fait de cet avis, Ian Endersby (4) insiste sur le r\u00f4le des expansions ventrales du 8\u00b0 segment qui auraient pu sugg\u00e9rer ce nom de genre : et d\u2019ailleurs dans la description originale, Rambur ne peut manquer de les mentionner :  \u201c Abdomen ayant une dilatation au bord lat\u00e9ral du huiti\u00e8me segment en form (sic) d\u2019\u00e9caille ou de membrane large, noire, semblable dans les deux sexes (ce que je ne valide pas, je pense que les expansions des m\u00e2les sont plus larges) \u201d.
Gomphus<\/em> vient d\u2019un mot grec qui signifie cheville<\/em> ou boulon<\/em>, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la forme de l\u2019abdomen (de la plupart des esp\u00e8ces), qui ressemble \u00e0 une cheville pour assembler les bateaux<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Acutus<\/strong>, du latin acutus<\/em>, signifie aigu<\/em>, aiguis\u00e9, certainement en rapport avec l’\u00e9pine forte et pointue port\u00e9e par chacun des cerques (appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs), comme on le voit sur le dessin de Laidlaw ou sur ma photo plus bas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
