They are a dazzling red, which is very difficult for cameras, which lose all the details in this very particular light. Females are more discreet and we only saw them in the forest or in the shade of its limits, like immature males.<br>It was on this&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.meslibellules.fr\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/18-03-25-Sama-Jaya-Nature-Reserve-.webp\">flooded space between bush and path<\/a>&nbsp;that we encountered our first Scarlet dwarf (or Scarlet Pigmy) of the stay, a terrain that they shared with Ceriagrion cerinorubellum, Agriocnemis femina and Acisoma panorpoides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is one of those species in which males can be territorial, monitor and dominate a territory. Rambur (1), who created this genus precisely for N. pygmaea, writes: \u00ab\u00a0<em> I formed this genus on the smallest known species of Libellulid and of which I have only seen the female<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb<br \/><strong>Pygmaea<\/strong>\u00a0, from the Greek<em>\u00a0pygmaios<\/em>\u00a0&#8211;<em> long as a fist<\/em>,<em> dwarf<\/em>, then from the<em>\u00a0Latin\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0<em>pygmaeus<\/em>\u00a0&#8211;<em> pygmy<\/em>.
