Tyriobapta torrida (1) fait partie d’un genre qui ne comprend que trois esp\u00e8ces, toutes pr\u00e9sentes \u00e0 Borneo. Elles sont tr\u00e8s ressemblantes pour l’aspect g\u00e9n\u00e9ral et les motifs thoraciques des jeunes sujets, mais sont facilement diff\u00e9renci\u00e9es par l’\u00e9tendue de la coloration alaire basale, celle de Tyriobapta torrida \u00e9tant largement la plus importante, celle de T. laidlawi (non contact\u00e9) tr\u00e8s limit\u00e9e, alors qu’elle est totalement absente pour T. kuekenthali (photos disponibles plus tard).
C’est un petit Libellulidae que j’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 en Malaisie<\/a> P\u00e9ninsulaire et on est tout de suite frapp\u00e9 par la longueur relative des ailes et de celle de l’insecte. Il mesure 29 \u00e0 32 mm alors qu’une seule de ses ailes post\u00e9rieures atteint 25 \u00e0 26 mm (2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ces trois premi\u00e8res photos montrent certainement un jeune individu, pour sa coloration claire, tant celle du bleu ou du gris de son abdomen que de ses yeux. Ce sujet \u00e9tait dans un endroit assez magique, un paysage karstique en for\u00eat dense et sombre, constitu\u00e9 d’\u00e9normes blocs rocheux parcourus d’un ruisseau tr\u00e8s lent. L’acc\u00e8s pour le photographier n’\u00e9tait pas commode…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le trouve en for\u00eat, sur des rivi\u00e8res ou ruisseaux lents, dans les mar\u00e9cages ou les tourbi\u00e8res.
Sur les sites de reproduction, les m\u00e2les se perchent sur un rameau au-dessus de l’eau et affrontent leurs rivaux en fon\u00e7ant vers eux en exhibant leurs taches basales alaires qui scintillent au soleil. Les femelles pondent en frappant l’eau de leur abdomen pour propulser leurs \u0153ufs accompagn\u00e9s de gouttelettes d’eau vers la rive. Elles sont gard\u00e9es par les m\u00e2les qui les survolent en tra\u00e7ant un circuit presque rectangulaire, avec un bref vol rectangulaire \u00e0 chaque angle (2).

Ci-dessous un autre sujet nettement plus mature, sur le m\u00eame site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est une esp\u00e8ce limit\u00e9e au Sundaland, c’est-\u00e0-dire le sud de la Tha\u00eflande, la p\u00e9ninsule Indo-malaise, Born\u00e9o, Sumatra et les iles avoisinantes.

Les anglophones lui donnent le nom de Treehugger en raison de sa fa\u00e7on de se poser, semblant embrasser les troncs d’arbres ; mais comme on le verra plus tard, T. kuekenthali adopte la m\u00eame technique. La photo ci-dessous a \u00e9t\u00e9 faite sur le m\u00eame site que les pr\u00e9c\u00e9dentes, mais dans une partie plus ouverte, depuis un pont sur une petite rivi\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie
Tyriobapta (3) ; Kirby a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce nom de genre pour l’esp\u00e8ce torrida<\/em> \u00e0 partir de l’adjectif latin tyrius<\/em> qui signifie relatif \u00e0 la ville de Tyr<\/em> (Ph\u00e9nicie), ville r\u00e9put\u00e9e pour sa poupre<\/em> et du grec baptos<\/em> qui signifie teindre<\/em>, immerger<\/em>. Ceci se r\u00e9f\u00e9rant bien s\u00fbr, par association, \u00e0 la coloration alaire.
Torrida ; du latin torridus<\/em>, qui signifie cuit, r\u00f4ti<\/em>, torride,<\/em> et si Kirby ne donne pas d’indication suppl\u00e9mentaire, on lit dans Ngiam & Ng, 2022 (2) que cet adjectif pourrait se r\u00e9f\u00e9rer aux origines tropicales et \u00e9quatoriales de cette esp\u00e8ce.
