Selys a d’abord d\u00e9crit Libellago stictica (Chlorocyphidae) comme une race<\/em> suppos\u00e9e de Micromerus stigmatizans,1859 (1), puis comme Micromerus sticticus en 1869 (2). Le genre Micromerus est aujourd’hui disparu.
C’est M.A. Lieftinck qui dans ce document (3), et adh\u00e9rant \u00e0 la proposition de Fraser, a r\u00e9uni tous les Micromerus de Selys dans le genre Libellago.
Et Selys ne s’\u00e9tait pas tromp\u00e9, Libellago stigmatizans et stictica sont effectivement tr\u00e8s proches, mais si L. stigmatizans n’est pas pr\u00e9sent \u00e0 Born\u00e9o, et L. stictica en est end\u00e9mique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est aussi proche de L. lineata<\/a> (ici au Vietnam) et de L. aurantiaca dont l’abdomen est aussi orange, mais ces deux esp\u00e8ces ne portent que des lignes jaunes sur le thorax et non cette tache en forme de feuille<\/em> \u00e0 la partie ant\u00e9rieure (4). Il est aussi l\u00e9g\u00e8rement plus grand ; A. G. Orr nous dit que son aile post\u00e9rieure mesure 17 \u00e0 18 mm, aile qui est d’ailleurs bien plus longue que l’abdomen, une des caract\u00e9ristiques des Chlorocyphidae. L’insecte entier est donc tr\u00e8s petit, \u00e0 peine plus de 25 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Entre les ocelles et les antennes, ils portent un dessin complexe et spectaculaire, qui rajoute \u00e0 la singularit\u00e9 de la face.
Ils habitent les rivi\u00e8res en for\u00eats, en plaine, et se plaisent \u00e0 \u00e9tablir leur territoire sur les troncs d’arbres morts semi-immerg\u00e9s sur lesquels les femelles viennent pondre. Ils sont agressifs avec les autres m\u00e2les et combattent en vol en se faisant face, exhibant \u00e0 la fois la face blanche de leurs pattes ant\u00e9rieures et l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 color\u00e9e de leurs ailes post\u00e9rieures. A.G. Orr \u00e9crit qu’ils sont pr\u00e9sents peu de temps sur les sites de reproduction, \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s une heure l’apr\u00e8s-midi. Les n\u00f4tres \u00e9taient en avance !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur cette de rivi\u00e8res, ils se partageaient les supports avec Libellago semiopaca, Heliocypha biseriata, Dyspahea dimidiata et Neurobasis longipes. Il est \u00e0 noter que c’est notre septi\u00e8me jour de prospection et le premier jour o\u00f9 il ne pleut pas !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est rarement contact\u00e9, il n’y avait que trois observations sur iNaturalist<\/a> avant notre s\u00e9jour.
Il est donc end\u00e9mique de Born\u00e9o, avec des donn\u00e9es de Brunei, du Kalimantan mais surtout du Sarawak, o\u00f9 la pression d’observation est certainement plus forte.

Les femelles occup\u00e9es \u00e0 pondre sur les bois morts se laissent approcher plus facilement que les m\u00e2les ; elles ins\u00e8rent leurs \u0153ufs dans le bois en voie de d\u00e9composition, dans les parties immerg\u00e9es de celui-ci, r\u00e9sistant au courant sensible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elles sont tr\u00e8s spectaculaires avec leur abdomen massif. Noter qu’elle ne pr\u00e9sente pas le d\u00e9cor en forme de feuille sur le thorax, mais l’identification \u00e9tait sans probl\u00e8me, car les m\u00e2les se posaient sans cesse juste \u00e0 leurs c\u00f4t\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/span><\/strong>
Libellago<\/strong> ; le genre a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Selys en 1840 et on pense (5) qu’il est form\u00e9 du latin libellula<\/em> pour libellule et de –ago<\/em>, suffixe d\u00e9riv\u00e9 de virago, qui, en latin, signifie<\/a> \u00ab\u00a0femme forte et courageuse comme un homme\u00a0\u00bb et donc \u00e9ventuellement h\u00e9ro\u00efne. C’est l’explication donn\u00e9e par Ngiam et Ng, mais ne faut-il pas simplement s’arr\u00eater au sens du suffixe -ago en latin (6) qui signifie conduire, dans le sens de diriger. Pourquoi Selys donne-t-il cette qualit\u00e9 \u00e0 ce genre est un myst\u00e8re, car quel que soit le comportement de cet odonate sur le terrain, Selys ne l’a jamais vu vivant ?
Stictica<\/strong>, du grec\u00a0stiktos<\/em>\u00a0pour\u00a0marqu\u00e9, tatou\u00e9<\/em> ; Selys, dans son \u00ab\u00a0Additions au Synopsis des Calopterygines\u00a0\u00bb \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0Race ? Un exemplaire de Born\u00e9o (m\u00eame collection) a des taches jaunes aux 6\u00b0 et 7\u00b0 segments, et les bandes lat\u00e9rales jaunes du thorax sont maculaires. Si c\u2019est une esp\u00e8ce, je le nommerai Micromerus sticticus.\u00a0\u00bb Il s’agit d’un paragraphe de l’article dans lequel il d\u00e9crit L. stigmatizans et il note que ce sujet en diff\u00e8re par des taches jaunes, qui sont certainement \u00e0 l’origine du nom d’esp\u00e8ce.

\u00c0 noter que ce nom d’esp\u00e8ce est \u00e9galement donn\u00e9 \u00e0 un Trithemis<\/a> (Libellulidae) que j’ai rencontr\u00e9 en Namibie. Mais aussi \u00e0 un Pericnemis (Coenagrionidae) et un Phyllopetalia (Austropetaliidae) !
