D\u00e8s la premi\u00e8re matin\u00e9e de prospection, c’est un plaisir de rencontrer Gynacantha maclachlani male (1), un grand Aeshnidae. Dans la r\u00e9serve Sama Jaya, dans la ville de Kuching, je me suis \u00e9cart\u00e9 du groupe pour trouver un peu de tranquillit\u00e9… et ayant quelques dizaines de secondes pour scruter l’obscurit\u00e9 devant moi, j’ai eu la surprise de d\u00e9couvrir ce superbe m\u00e2le.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous sommes dans une partie mar\u00e9cageuse de for\u00eat assez dense, et il fait tr\u00e8s sombre, nous nous appr\u00eatons \u00e0 nous abriter <\/a>de la pluie \u00e9parse qui va se transformer en trombes d’eau et inonder les prairies.

Il fait partie de ce que les anglophones appellent Duskhawker, c’est-\u00e0-dire qu’ils sont principalement actifs au cr\u00e9puscule et, dans la journ\u00e9e, ils pendent assez bas, accroch\u00e9s \u00e0 une branche en for\u00eat dense.

Sa taille doit \u00eatre tr\u00e8s voisine de celle de G. dohrni, 62 \u00e0 66 mm (2) avec un abdomen de 43 \u00e0 45 mm et surtout des appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs tr\u00e8s longs, 6.5 mm pr\u00e9cise Kr\u00fcger dans sa description (1).
On ne le trouverait qu’\u00e0 Born\u00e9o et Sumatra.

Noter les auricules<\/a> bleues sur le second segment, et la fa\u00e7on dont le troisi\u00e8me est \u00e9trangl\u00e9…

Je dois avouer que ce sujet a d’abord \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9 comme Gynacantha dohrni, dont il existe de nombreuses photos sur le Web. Celles-ci sont les premi\u00e8res publi\u00e9es de Gynacantha maclachlani, au moins sur iNaturalist.
La distinction se fait essentiellement par les appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs, ceux de G. dohrni portant \u00e0 leur base une dent, ici absente. Son 3\u00b0 segment serait peut-\u00eatre encore plus fin que celui de G. dohrni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur son aile post\u00e9rieure droite, on peut observer un dipt\u00e8re parasite, peut-\u00eatre du genre Forcipomyia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Le terme Gynacantha<\/strong> (2) a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Rambur \u00e0 partir de deux mots grecs :\u00a0Gyna\u00a0<\/em>pour\u00a0femelle<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0canta<\/em>\u00a0pour\u00a0\u00e9pine<\/em>, car les femelles de ce genre portent 2 \u00e9pines sous le 10\u00b0 segment.
Maclachlani <\/b>(3) est un hommage de Leopold Kr\u00fcger \u00e0 Robert Mc Lachlan (1837-1904), un des principaux odonatologistes anglais de cette \u00e9poque, pour son aide dans la classification des Gynacantha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
