Amphicnemis annae est un (tr\u00e8s) rare Coenagrionidae qui fait partie d’un genre comprenant actuellement 22 esp\u00e8ces dont 12 \u00e0 Born\u00e9o. C’est un genre difficile qui n\u00e9cessite de tr\u00e8s bonnes photos du pronotum et de son \u00e9pine (si pr\u00e9sente) ainsi que des appendices anaux tr\u00e8s particuliers. Le mieux \u00e9tant, comme pour nous, d’avoir comme guide le sp\u00e9cialiste des Odonates de Born\u00e9o, Rory Dow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La sc\u00e8ne se d\u00e9roule dans une tourbi\u00e8re en for\u00eat, relativement sombre et surprenante par les trous d’eau qui peuvent se cacher sur le sol couvert de liti\u00e8re, entre les racines, les branches et les troncs se d\u00e9composant au sol…
En s’approchant suffisamment de cet odonate pas trop craintif, on parvient \u00e0 bien voir l’\u00e9pine qu’il porte, arrim\u00e9e au lobe post\u00e9rieur de son pronotum ; elle est tr\u00e8s longue et de forme bien particuli\u00e8re, concave en avant, en \u00ab\u00a0banane\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il faut donc v\u00e9rifier \u00e0 chaque fois la pr\u00e9sence, la forme et la taille de l’\u00e9pine.

Lieftinck nous dit qu’abdomen et appendices anaux mesurent 34 \u00e0 35 mm, il atteint donc une longueur totale de 39,5 mm pour une aile post\u00e9rieure de 18.5-19 mm. La longueur de l’abdomen rapport\u00e9e au thorax est vraiment spectaculaire.

On confirme bien s\u00fbr l’identification par les appendices anaux. Ma surprise a \u00e9t\u00e9 de d\u00e9couvrir que sur ma photo, on ne voit pas les appendices anaux inf\u00e9rieurs (paraproctes) qui sont minuscules comme le montre le dessin de Lieftinck. On ne voit que les deux branches des cerques (appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs), dont la branche inf\u00e9rieure tr\u00e8s d\u00e9velopp\u00e9e pourrait passer pour les paraproctes !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est end\u00e9mique de Born\u00e9o, connu du Sarawak, de Brunei et du nord-ouest du Kalimantan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles existent sous deux formes, avec ou sans \u00e9pine sur la partie post\u00e9rieure du lobe du pronotum. Si Lieftinck en d\u00e9crit une identique \u00e0 celle du m\u00e2le, Rory Dow \u00e9crit (2) : \u00ab\u00a0females from most parts of Sarawak (identified by association with the male and in one case taken in tandem) lack a long horn… – les femelles de la majeure partie du Sarawak (identifi\u00e9es en association avec le m\u00e2le et dans un cas prise en tandem) n’ont pas de longue \u00e9pine…\u00a0\u00bb. Immatures, elles ont le thorax et les pattes rouges, matures elles ressemblent aux m\u00e2les.

\u00c0 gauche pas d’\u00e9pine, \u00e0 droite une \u00e9pine identique \u00e0 celle du m\u00e2le.
Avec ou sans \u00e9pine, la coloration de leur thorax est spectaculaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J’ai h\u00e9sit\u00e9 avant de pr\u00e9senter cette femelle mature, mais je suis maintenant convaincu, en \u00e9tudiant attentivement la forme du pronotum, qu’il s’agit de femelles matures sans \u00e9pine. On retrouve par exemple, comme sur la photo 2 (sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9 droit du prnotum) cette curieuse expansion lat\u00e9rale du lobe post\u00e9rieur pronotum que Lieftinck d\u00e9crit dans sa cl\u00e9 des femelles (1) : \u00ab\u00a0Lateral divisions of prothoracic hind-lobe produced as a pair of long, acute-angulate, bluntly triangular, outwardly directed lamellae… – Divisions lat\u00e9rales du lobe post\u00e9rieur prothoracique produisent une paire de lamelles longues, \u00e0 angle aigu, triangulaires \u00e9mouss\u00e9es et dirig\u00e9es vers l’ext\u00e9rieur…\u00a0\u00bb. On ne voit que celle du c\u00f4t\u00e9 droit, la perspective \u00e9crase la vue de celle du c\u00f4t\u00e9 gauche.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Amphicnemis<\/strong> (Selys, 1863) : Amphi-<\/em> du grec \u1f00\u03bc\u03c6\u03af<\/em> qui signifie des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s<\/em> et de cnemis<\/em> qui signifie jambe ou tibia et a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 pour cr\u00e9er de nombreux genres depuis les Platycnemis, genres qui n’ont plus rien de particulier pour la largeur de leur tibia, mais ont des points communs de nervation.
Robin Ngiam & Marcus Ng (3) proposent l’explication suivante concernant amphi<\/em> : Selys a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre Amphicnemis pour y placer A. wallacii qu’il trouvait ressemblant avec Amphilestes macrocephala (maintenant Rhinagrion macrocephalum<\/a>). Cette esp\u00e8ce pr\u00e9sente des points noirs des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s<\/em> du thorax. J’ai bien du mal \u00e0 accepter cette version, ayant rencontr\u00e9 R. macrocephalum… mais je n’ai pas d’autre explication.
Annae<\/strong> est tr\u00e8s certainement un hommage \u00e0 une certaine Anne, peut-\u00eatre une naturaliste qui a collect\u00e9 des Odonates, mais en l’occurrence pas Amphicnemis annae, captur\u00e9 par Louis Coomans de Ruiter, entomologiste, conchyliologiste, collectionneur botanique, collectionneur scientifique, botaniste et m\u00eame fonctionnaire !<\/p>\n\n\n\n
