J’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s surpris que ce petit Libellulidae, Brachygonia puella, appartienne \u00e0 ce genre dont nous avions observ\u00e9 beaucoup plus souvent B. oculata<\/a> ; en effet, si on retrouve les gros yeux et le thorax court et massif du genre, l’abdomen est totalement diff\u00e9rent, beaucoup plus mince et l\u00e9g\u00e8rement arqu\u00e9. Il est beaucoup plus proche de Chalybeothemis fluviatilis<\/a>, que nous avons observ\u00e9 sur le m\u00eame site, que de son cousin, ce qui est vraiment \u00e9tonnant.
Ce n’est qu’en \u00e9crivant ces pages et en lisant Lieftinck (1) que je me suis rendu compte qu’il faisait la m\u00eame observation : \u00ab\u00a0Abdomen comparatively long and extremely slender, quite different in shape from the two other known species.\u00a0\u00bb. Ces deux autres esp\u00e8ces sont B. oculata et B. ophelia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il y a donc peu de risque de confusion avec d’autres esp\u00e8ces, hormis celle cit\u00e9e, les autres Brachygonia sont tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rents, beaucoup plus color\u00e9s (nous n’avons pas rencontr\u00e9 B. ophelia, aussi peu commun que B. puella).
Son abdomen ne mesure que 14 \u00e0 15 mm et en entier, il ne d\u00e9passe qu’\u00e0 peine 22 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous ne l’avons rencontr\u00e9 que sur les eaux noires et tourbeuses du Parc National de Maludam ; au bout de trois heures de bateau, notre progression<\/a> sur la rivi\u00e8re est arr\u00eat\u00e9e par la for\u00eat inond\u00e9e et nous sommes descendus explorer le sous-bois. Quelques minutes apr\u00e8s ces photos, mon mat\u00e9riel photo et moi-m\u00eame passerons bri\u00e8vement sous l’eau, ce qui mettra fin \u00e0 mes photos pour la journ\u00e9e…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brachygonia puella pourrait \u00eatre end\u00e9mique de Born\u00e9o (Kalimantan et Sarawak), car une population historique sur l’ile de Belitung pourrait avoir disparu. IUCN Red List<\/a>.
Il est en tout cas tr\u00e8s rare, il n’y a qu’une quinzaine de photos sur iNaturalist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Brachygonia<\/strong> (Kirby, 1889) du grec brachy<\/em>, pour court,<\/em> et du grec ancien gonia<\/em> pour g\u00e9n\u00e9ration (dont on a fait gonade<\/em>) certainement en rapport avec l\u2019appareil g\u00e9nital secondaire peu pro\u00e9minent sous le deuxi\u00e8me segment. Kirby \u00e9crit : \u00a0\u00bb appendages of the second segment distinct, not very prominent<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb.
Puella<\/strong> ; du latin puella<\/em>, <\/strong>qui signifie fille<\/em>, jeune fille<\/em>, demoiselle,<\/em> a \u00e9t\u00e9 le 2\u00b0 nom donn\u00e9 \u00e0 un odonate dans la nouvelle nomenclature linn\u00e9enne pour Coenagrion puella. Lieftinck ne donne pas d’explication de ce choix, mais on peut supposer qu’il a trouv\u00e9 l’esp\u00e8ce d\u00e9licate, notamment par la minceur de l’abdomen qu’il souligne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
