Agrionoptera sexlineata m\u00e2le, Born\u00e9o, Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Matang, 20\/03\/2025<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Agrionoptera sexlineata est un spectaculaire Libellulidae aux yeux jaunes surmont\u00e9s de brun avec un front noir brillant, au thorax vert m\u00e9tallique parcouru de trois lignes jaunes de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9. Une pulv\u00e9rulence bleut\u00e9e s’installe entre les ailes et d\u00e9borde sur les premiers segments abdominaux. Ceux-ci sont aplatis dorso-ventralement sombres pour les sujets matures, seuls finalement S6 et S7 restent rouge vif. Les ailes post\u00e9rieures sont \u00e9troites \u00e0 la base et les quatre ailes sont tach\u00e9es \u00e0 l’apex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette esp\u00e8ce est nouvelle pour moi et sur le terrain, j’ai eu du mal \u00e0 le s\u00e9parer de Nesoxenia lineata<\/a> dont je n’avais jusque-l\u00e0 vu qu’une seule femelle en Malaisie P\u00e9ninsulaire. Mais ce dernier montre des yeux gris bleut\u00e9, des lignes jaunes plus larges sur un thorax plus sombre, l’abdomen est plus fin et son S8 est largement rouge (noir pour Agrionoptera sexlineata).
On dit qu’on peut \u00e9galement le confondre avec son cousin Agrionoptera insignis<\/a> et si les yeux de ce dernier sont clairs, son thorax est tr\u00e8s sombre et son abdomen est enti\u00e8rement rouge, sauf les trois derniers segments. Brauer, cr\u00e9ateur du genre Agrionoptera en 1864 n’y avait pas vu de diff\u00e9rence.

Il est \u00e0 noter que cette confusion est soulign\u00e9e dans les noms vernaculaires anglais ; s’il est assez logique que les deux Agrionoptera re\u00e7oivent tous les 2 le m\u00eame nom de genre, \u00ab\u00a0Grenadier\u00a0\u00bb, Grenadier<\/em> pour A. insignis et Handsome Grenadier<\/em> pour A. sexlineata, N. lineata re\u00e7oit celui de Stripped Grenadier alors qu’il appartient bien s\u00fbr \u00e0 un autre genre ! Je suppose que ce nom leur vient de The Grenadiers<\/em>, un r\u00e9giment d’infanterie de l’arm\u00e9e indienne (avant l’ind\u00e9pendance) dont l’uniforme comportait une longue tunique rouge sur un pantalon bleu.
Il y a m\u00eame un Scarlet Grenadier, Lathrecista asiatica<\/a> !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Agrionoptera sexlineata mesure 40 \u00e0 44 mm de longueur totale \u00e0 Singapour, selon Ngiam et Ng (2). Selys mesure l’abdomen de son sujet qui provient de Malacca (Malaisie P\u00e9ninsulaire) \u00e0 24-23 mm (sic) (1) ce qui donne une longueur totale d’environ 38 mm.
Il se pla\u00eet sur les mares foresti\u00e8res mar\u00e9cageuses et garnies de liti\u00e8re de feuille, se perchant sur un rameau dominant la pi\u00e8ce d’eau. C’est bien le cas du sujet ci-dessus, mais le premier \u00e9tait sans doute en promenade dans un milieu bien plus ouvert, sans pi\u00e8ce d’eau \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 imm\u00e9diate.
La magnifique femelle ci-dessous a \u00e9t\u00e9 observ\u00e9e non loin d’une rivi\u00e8re en for\u00eat. Malheureusement, je ne me suis pas rendu compte que mon flash ne se d\u00e9clenchait pas, et les photos sont sous-expos\u00e9es et pas tr\u00e8s nettes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noter la ligne jaune qui parcourt la face dorsale de l’abdomen jusqu’au septi\u00e8me segment abdominal et la tache sombre de l’apex des ailes.

Sa distribution inclut Born\u00e9eo, Sumatra, Singapour et la moiti\u00e9 sud de la P\u00e9ninsule.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
L\u2019\u00e9tymologie de Agrionoptera<\/strong> pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e par Enderby & Fliedner (3) est un peu complexe ; Agrion<\/em> est le nom utilis\u00e9 par Fabricius pour d\u00e9signer tous les zygopt\u00e8res, tandis que dans la 2\u00b0 partie du nom de genre, on reconna\u00eet le mot grec ptera<\/em> signifiant aile<\/em> ou ail\u00e9<\/em> (composant de nombreux mots de notre vocabulaire entomologique, comme apt\u00e8re ou dipt\u00e8re). Lorsque Brauer a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce nom de genre en 1863, il a voulu insister sur la similarit\u00e9 des ailes avec celles\u2026 des zygopt\u00e8res (ou Agrion pour Fabricius), citant le genre Euphaea ou les Calopterygidae.
Sexlineata<\/strong>, du latin sex<\/em> pour six<\/em> et de lineatus<\/em> pour ray\u00e9<\/em> (dot\u00e9 de ligne) et se rapporte bien s\u00fbr au thorax de l’esp\u00e8ce ; Selys \u00e9crit (1) :\u00a0\u00bbThorax bronz\u00e9 avec une ligne dorsale et trois raies \u00e9troites sinu\u00e9es de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9 jaunes\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
