Il y a trois Neurothemis au Sarawak et Neurothemis terminata est celui qui est le plus facile \u00e0 identifier et \u00e0 s\u00e9parer de ses deux cousins N. ramburii<\/a> et N. fluctuans<\/a>. S’ils sont tous les trois globalement rouges avec des ailes rouges, N. terminata est le seul dont la coloration alaire de l’aile post\u00e9rieure se termine<\/em> de fa\u00e7on rectiligne au niveau ou plus loin que le pt\u00e9rostigma. Pour les deux autres, la coloration de l’aile post\u00e9rieure fuit<\/em> vers la base.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il s’en distingue \u00e9galement par les motifs abdominaux lat\u00e9raux, qui, \u00e0 l’inverse de N. ramburii, se situent dans la partie distale des derniers segments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est d’une taille \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s \u00e9quivalente \u00e0 celle de N. ramburii, de 32 \u00e0 43 mm.
Nous les avons rencontr\u00e9s dans le m\u00eame type d’habitat que les deux autres Neurothemis, ce qui ajoute \u00e0 la difficult\u00e9 d’identification sur le terrain. Il se pla\u00eet dans les eaux peu profondes et les milieux ouverts comme les foss\u00e9s, les canaux d’irrigation, les rizi\u00e8res, les zones mar\u00e9cageuses, les \u00e9tangs et les ruisseaux et en particulier les zones modifi\u00e9es par l’homme !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme pour les m\u00e2les, on peut se fier aux marques abdominales pour s\u00e9parer les femelles des trois esp\u00e8ces ; celle des femelles N. terminata ont des traits lat\u00e9raux abdominaux tr\u00e8s nettement d\u00e9cal\u00e9s vers la partie distale des segments abdominaux.
De plus, sur le jeune sujet ci-dessous, on devine une coloration alaire en devenir, qui s’\u00e9tend loin sur chaque aile et se termine en ligne droite sur l’aile post\u00e9rieure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend des Philippines \u00e0 Born\u00e9o, Bali, Java et Sumatra.
IUCN Red List<\/a>.

Son nom vernaculaire anglais rappelle la forme de la coloration alaire aux apex et insiste \u00e9galement sur la position qu’ils adoptent au repos, les ailes plus basses que le reste du corps, abritant du soleil leur thorax : Straight-edge Red Parasol.

\u00c9tymologie
<\/strong>L’esp\u00e8ce avait \u00e9t\u00e9 baptis\u00e9e Polyneura apicalis par Rambur, 1842.
Neurothemis <\/strong>(3), du grec neuro<\/em> pour \u2013nerf <\/em>ou plut\u00f4t \u2013nervure des ailes<\/em> en entomologie, et de Themis \u2013 d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 de nombreuses fois depuis Hagen (1861). Le nom de la d\u00e9esse de l\u2019ordre est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et ordonner les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces. Brauer a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce nom de genre en 1867 pour remplacer le genre Polyneura, cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Rambur en 1842, car ce dernier \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 utilis\u00e9 chez les H\u00e9mipt\u00e8res. Ce nom de genre, comme le nom actuel, \u00e9tait destin\u00e9 \u00e0 insister sur le grand nombre de cellules de leurs ailes.
Terminata<\/strong> (4), du latin terminatus<\/em> pour termin\u00e9<\/em>, limit\u00e9<\/em>, bien s\u00fbr en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la disposition terminale de la coloration alaire. Et si Ris n’a pas retenu le nom d’esp\u00e8ce apicalis<\/em> <\/strong>c’est qu’il \u00e9tait pr\u00e9occup\u00e9 par Libellula apicalis (Gu\u00e9rin-M\u00e9neville, 1830) qui deviendra Neurothemis fulvia ! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Une derni\u00e8re photo, pas tr\u00e8s bonne, d’un m\u00e2le immature dont le thorax et l’abdomen ont encore leur coloration de type \u00ab\u00a0femelle\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
