Nous n’avons observ\u00e9 Euphaea tricolor (Euphaeidae) que sur une large rivi\u00e8re pr\u00e9sentant un courant non n\u00e9gligeable que seules des cuissardes ou de l’audace permettaient de ma\u00eetriser ; Je n’ai pas voulu risquer mon mat\u00e9riel et j’ai d\u00fb me contenter de rester sur la berge et de tenter ma chance avec mon 150 mm macro dop\u00e9 d’un multiplicateur X2.
G\u00fcnther s’est aventur\u00e9 un peu plus loin et Chris a, selon son habitude, adopt\u00e9 son mode \u00ab\u00a0hippo\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il y a 6 esp\u00e8ces du genre Euphaea \u00e0 Born\u00e9o (1), mais en dehors de celui-ci, je n’ai photographi\u00e9 que le magnifique et beaucoup plus commun E. impar<\/a>. Tous ces Euphaea de Born\u00e9o ont un point commun et c’est de pr\u00e9senter des ailes ant\u00e9rieures hyalines.
Pour un amateur, ils sont tr\u00e8s proches des Dysphaea ; cependant, pour ces derniers, le nodus est situ\u00e9 au milieu de l’aile, il est plus basal pour les Euphaea et le segment 10 ne pr\u00e9sente pas de projection dorsale (pr\u00e9sent pour Euphaea, voir la photo de E. impar en lien plus haut ou cette photo de Euphaea masoni<\/a> au Vietnam).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

M\u00eame si Euphaea tricolor est tr\u00e8s proche de E. subcostalis et de E. subnodalis, l’identification de cette esp\u00e8ce ne pose pas de probl\u00e8me tant son aile post\u00e9rieure est caract\u00e9ristique ; elle est opaque depuis le nodus (ou juste avant) jusqu’\u00e0 l’apex (pour les deux autres cette opacit\u00e9 est plus basale encore). Elle est orn\u00e9e dans la partie basale de cette aire d’une zone iris\u00e9e bleue, qui donne un effet magnifique lorsqu’il est en vol.
De plus, en cliquant sur la photo, on distingue une zone claire sous le S2, qui correspond \u00e0 une extension lat\u00e9rale de la v\u00e9sicule s\u00e9minale, une sorte d’auricule (2), \u00e9tonnamment color\u00e9e en jaune clair. C’est un crit\u00e8re de cette esp\u00e8ce.

Selys (3) nous dit que son abdomen mesure 33 mm ce qui donne environ 42 mm pour l’insecte entier.
Le site sur lequel nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 est tout \u00e0 fait en accord avec son biotope habituel, constitu\u00e9 de rivi\u00e8res rocheuses et rapides en for\u00eat.
Il est end\u00e9mique de Born\u00e9o o\u00f9 il est beaucoup plus abondant au nord, Sarawak et Brunei.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Euphaea<\/strong>\u00a0se r\u00e9f\u00e8re directement au nom de la famille \u00e0 laquelle ce genre appartient, les Euphaeidae, que les anglo-saxons appellent Satinwings. Selys (1840) aurait combin\u00e9 le grec\u00a0eu<\/em>\u00a0 signifiant\u00a0bien, vrai<\/em>\u00a0et le terme\u00a0phaios<\/em>\u00a0(et non pas\u00a0pha\u00fbos<\/em> (?), comme on le lit en (4) et qui signifierait brillant<\/em>) qui signifie\u00a0sombre<\/em>, ce qui s\u2019applique en effet aux ailes de nombreux membres de cette famille (sauf\u00a0E. ochracea<\/a>\u00a0qu\u2019il d\u00e9crira en 1859).
Tricolor<\/strong>, du latin tricolor qui signifie tricolore. Il ne reste qu’\u00e0 d\u00e9terminer quelles sont les trois couleurs auxquelles Selys fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence, ce qui n’est pas absolument \u00e9vident dans sa description : sans doute le jaune de la face, le noir du thorax et de l’abdomen et le bleu iris\u00e9 de ses ailes…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
