C’est peut-\u00eatre en raison de l’immensit\u00e9 de son aire de r\u00e9partition que Ictinogomphus pertinax a pos\u00e9 (pose encore ?) des probl\u00e8mes de taxinomie\u202f; il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit plusieurs fois sous des noms diff\u00e9rents dans des lieux diff\u00e9rents, et d’abord sous le nom d’Ictinus pertinax dans le \u00ab\u00a0Synopsis des Gomphines\u00a0\u00bb de de Selys.
Le genre Ictinogomphus comprend 16 esp\u00e8ces (dont certaines africaines ou australiennes) et on se pose encore la question de savoir si I. pertinax et I. rapax ne seraient pas synonymes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ce grand Gomphidae atteint environ 71 mm et se pla\u00eet sur les mares et \u00e9tangs o\u00f9 sa posture classique est d’\u00eatre perch\u00e9 au sommet d’un rameau pour surveiller son territoire. Il montre des comportements peu habituels pour un Gomphidae; il est territorial et n’h\u00e9site pas \u00e0 attaquer les autres (grandes) esp\u00e8ces qui s’invitent sur son territoire. Peu commune \u00e9galement pour ce genre est son habitude d’adopter la posture dite \u00ab\u00a0en ob\u00e9lisque\u00a0\u00bb, c’est-\u00e0-dire abdomen pointant vers le ciel, posture beaucoup plus commune chez les Libellulidae qui cherchent \u00e0 se prot\u00e9ger ainsi des exc\u00e8s de chaleur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il ressemble \u00e0 Sinictogomphus clavatus<\/a>, lui aussi pr\u00e9sent au Vietnam, mais on l’en s\u00e9pare facilement en raison de l’absence de marque jaune sur les expansions foliac\u00e9es du 8\u00b0 segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En anglais, il prend le nom de Common flangetail.

Il est connu depuis l’est de l’Inde (voire le Sri Lanka si on ajoute l’aire de distribution de Ictinogomphus rapax !) jusqu’au Japon et Hong Kong en passant par le Laos, le Myanmar, le Vietnam et une bonne partie de la Chine continentale.
