M\u00eame si j’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 Ceriagrion cerinorubellum en Malaisie Continentale, il n’est pas difficile de comprendre pourquoi j’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 ravi de le revoir ! Il pr\u00e9sente un assemblage de couleurs tout \u00e0 fait spectaculaire, variable en fonction de l’\u00e2ge, avec une apparence tr\u00e8s particuli\u00e8re du thorax, lisse et glabre. Le rouge ou orange intense des premiers segments contraste avec le bleu\/vert p\u00e2le du thorax et semble en feu<\/em>.
Malheureusement le temps \u00e9tait \u00e0 la pluie et les photos manquent de sa gait\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est bien s\u00fbr impossible de le confondre avec un autre zygopt\u00e8re.
Brauer (1) a mesur\u00e9 cette beaut\u00e9, son exemplaire provenait de Ceylan (notre actuel Sri Lanka) \u00e0 37 mm, \u00e0 Singapour (2), on lui donne 35 \u00e0 38 mm.

Et ses yeux bleu-vert sont \u00e0 tomber ! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le trouve dans toutes sortes d’environnement ; dans cette r\u00e9serve, ils \u00e9taient quelques-uns \u00e0 peupler des herbes basses le long d’une mare, en limite d’un bois. On le trouve \u00e9galement sur les marais ou les ruisseaux un peu ouverts en for\u00eat.

Il est connu, comme les Ceriagrion en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, pour \u00eatre agressif avec les autres zygopt\u00e8res ; d’apr\u00e8s mes recherches sur le cannibalisme<\/a>, les Ceriagrion sont d’ailleurs le second genre le plus impliqu\u00e9 dans le cannibalisme apr\u00e8s les Ischnura et j’ai enregistr\u00e9 neuf cas concernant Ceriagrion cerinorubellum (j’ai d\u00e9couvert un neuvi\u00e8me cas en r\u00e9digeant ces pages).
Et j’avais bien ces chiffres en t\u00eate lorsque j’ai fait les photos ci-dessous ; il met aux prises deux m\u00e2les matures, celui qui est attaqu\u00e9 semblant mal form\u00e9, l’abdomen anormalement coud\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais h\u00e9las<\/em>, il ne s’agissait sans doute que d’une altercation, ou m\u00eame plus vraisemblablement d’une tentative d’accouplement (cela arrive !) ; sur la premi\u00e8re photo, le m\u00e2le sup\u00e9rieur semble tenter d’approcher ses appendices anaux en pince du pronotum du m\u00e2le du dessous. Les deux individus se sont s\u00e9par\u00e9s et ont disparu dans la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation.

Son aire de distribution est gigantesque en Asie subtropicale et tropicale, depuis l’Inde de l’Ouest, jusqu’au Vietnam et aux Philippines, plus au sud, il atteint Born\u00e9o, la Malaisie et l’Indon\u00e9sie.
IUCN Red List<\/a>.
Sur cette aire, il re\u00e7oit de nombreux noms vernaculaires dont le plus commun est Orange-tailed Marsh Dart, Ornate Coraltail \u00e0 Singapour, Painted Coraltail ou Bi-coloured Damsel (?) en Inde et m\u00eame Painted Waxtail.

Le sujet ci-dessous \u00e0 droite est sans doute \u00e2g\u00e9 et la face dorsale de son thorax est devenue bien terne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles sont tr\u00e8s proches des m\u00e2les et il faut faire attention aux caract\u00e8res sexuels pour les diff\u00e9rencier ; constater bien s\u00fbr la forme des appendices anaux ou des derniers segments et l’absence de saillie sous le deuxi\u00e8me segment (S2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais elles sont parfois beaucoup plus ternes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Il est \u00e0 noter que Brauer d\u00e9crit l’esp\u00e8ce sous le nom de Ceriagrion (Pyrrhosoma) cerino rubellum<\/em> et qu’il a cru avoir en main une esp\u00e8ce d\u00e9crite par Rambur sous le nom de Agrion cerinum, 1842, mais les appendices anaux de cette derni\u00e8re esp\u00e8ce \u00e9taient d\u00e9crits comme courts (on voit comme ils sont longs sur certaines de mes photos). Cet Agrion cerinum est maintenant nomm\u00e9 Ceriagrion coromandelianum<\/a> pr\u00e9sent aussi \u00e0 Ceylan (mais pas \u00e0 Born\u00e9o).

Ceriagrion<\/strong> (3) ; le genre a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Selys, 1876, lorsqu’il a divis\u00e9 le grand genre Agrion, vraisemblablement pour l’esp\u00e8ce cerinorubellum<\/em>, \u00e0 partir de agrion<\/em> (tr\u00e8s utilis\u00e9 pour la cr\u00e9ation de noms de… Coenagrionidae et qui est issu du grec agrios<\/em> pour sauvage, vivant dans les champs<\/em>) et du latin cerinus<\/em> signifiant couleur<\/em> (ou aspect<\/em> ?) de cire<\/em>, comme le thorax lisse et glabre du genre.
Cerinorubellum<\/strong> a \u00e9t\u00e9 compos\u00e9 par Brauer \u00e0 partir du nom de deux esp\u00e8ces qu’il cite dans son document : Agrion cerinum<\/em> de Rambur (futur C. coromandelianum) et Agrion rubellum<\/em> de Van der Linden (qui deviendra Ceriagrion tenellum<\/em> (de Villers)). Rubellum<\/em> en latin signifie rouge\u00e2tre<\/em>, tirant sur le rouge<\/em>.

Je rappelle encore une fois que tous les auteurs cit\u00e9s travaillaient sur des sujets en collection, dess\u00e9ch\u00e9s et dont les couleurs avaient pu grandement \u00e9voluer. La plupart du temps, quand ils se r\u00e9f\u00e9raient \u00e0 des travaux ant\u00e9rieurs, il n’y avait pas de dessin, en particulier des appendices anaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
