Heliocypha biseriata, Chlorocyphidae, fait partie d’un genre qui contient neuf esp\u00e8ces spectaculaires qui, \u00e0 elles seules, valent le voyage ! C’est la troisi\u00e8me que je rencontre apr\u00e8s H. perforata<\/a> et H. biforata<\/a> (tr\u00e8s voisin…), mais d’autres membres des Chlorocyphidae sont proches et spectaculaires aussi, comme Aristocypha fenestrella<\/a>, ici en Tha\u00eflande.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’intensit\u00e9 de la coloration thoracique rose, et surtout fuchsia<\/em> sur le pronotum et la partie ant\u00e9rieure du thorax est \u00e9tonnante. La forme triangulaire \u00e0 base arrondie est parfaitement dessin\u00e9e. Ils se parent m\u00eame de minuscules taches postoculaires de la m\u00eame couleur.
Cette r\u00e9partition des couleurs fait qu’il n’est pas possible de le confondre avec une autre esp\u00e8ce \u00e0 Born\u00e9o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur les photos ci-dessus, on note bien s\u00fbr la face caract\u00e9ristique des Chlorocyphidae, dot\u00e9e d’un curieux appendice qui ressemble \u00e0 un nez et qui explique pourquoi Selys,1859 les a plac\u00e9s dans les Rhinocypha (rhino<\/em> sgnifie nez<\/em> en grec).

Ils se plaisent sur des rivi\u00e8res foresti\u00e8res ouvertes, larges et parfois rapides, au fond caillouteux ou sableux. Ils aiment se percher sur les rochers pour surveiller leur territoire et en chasser les intrus. C’est bien dans cet habitat que nous les avons rencontr\u00e9s, post\u00e9s sur des rochers entour\u00e9s d’eau.
Il mesure environ 39 mm au total.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La quasi-totalit\u00e9 des donn\u00e9es concernant cette esp\u00e8ce provient de Born\u00e9o o\u00f9 elle est assez commune. Elle a \u00e9t\u00e9 signal\u00e9e sur deux ensembles d’\u00eeles proches de l’Indon\u00e9sie mais il n’est pas impossible qu’il y ait eu confusion avec H. biforata dans un de ces cas.

En effet, les deux esp\u00e8ces sont presque jumelles et Rory Dow (2021) \u00e9crit que Heliocypha biseriata est susceptible de s’av\u00e9rer \u00eatre la m\u00eame esp\u00e8ce que la tr\u00e8s r\u00e9pandue H. biforata (Selys, 1859)<\/em>.
Selys d\u00e9crit d’ailleurs successivement les deux esp\u00e8ces et note la coloration alaire plus \u00e9tendue pour Heliocypha biseriata ; pour le reste, en particulier ces taches, iris\u00e9es violettes ou presque hyalines selon l’incidence de la lumi\u00e8re, la description est quasi identique. Curieusement, il \u00e9crit que la seule diff\u00e9rence entre les deux esp\u00e8ces est la longueur des ailes, mais il donne la m\u00eame longueur d’aile inf\u00e9rieure pour les deux esp\u00e8ces, 23 mm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est donc tr\u00e8s vraisemblable que ces deux Heliocypha soient la m\u00eame esp\u00e8ce. Comme je l’ai d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9crit, les descriptions se succ\u00e8dent sur la m\u00eame page (pour des raisons de meilleur affichage, je les ai plac\u00e9es ci-dessus c\u00f4te \u00e0 c\u00f4te) et je suppose que le premier d\u00e9crit conservera plus tard la pr\u00e9s\u00e9ance, et biforata<\/em> sera r\u00e9duit au rang de synonyme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur la Timuoh River, large rivi\u00e8re \u00e0 fond de graviers avec un courant notable par endroit mais peu profonde, les sujets \u00e9taient post\u00e9s au soleil sur les rochers ou les troncs plus ou moins pourris o\u00f9 les femelles tentaient de pondre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais, quand elles veulent avoir la paix et ne pas \u00eatre harcel\u00e9es par les m\u00e2les, elles se r\u00e9fugient dans les branches proches de la berge.
M\u00eame si elles semblent tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rentes des m\u00e2les, il est amusant de constater que le pattern de la face lat\u00e9rale du thorax est semblable, \u00e0 l’exception bien s\u00fbr de la ligne ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale sup\u00e9rieure qui est beaucoup plus fine et non rose. La forme des taches abdominales correspond \u00e9galement.
Noter le dipt\u00e8re parasite au centre de l’aile ; il se nourrit en aspirant l’h\u00e9molymphe d’une nervure qu’il perfore. Il appartient peut-\u00eatre au genre Forcipomyia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Heliocypha<\/strong> ; le genre a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Fraser (1949), et cette esp\u00e8ce, nomm\u00e9e auparavant Rhinocypha biseriata par Selys a rejoint le genre. Fraser donne comme crit\u00e8re des m\u00e2les de ce genre le triangle rose (peach-blossom pink in colour<\/em> soit rose fleur de p\u00eacher) de ces esp\u00e8ces \u00e0 la partie ant\u00e9rieure du m\u00e9sothorax.
On peut supposer (car Fraser ne donne aucune indication) que Helio, du grec Helios<\/em>, soleil<\/em>, est une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on dont la lumi\u00e8re du soleil embellit les ailes en les irisant. Cypha vient de cyphos<\/em> qui signifie bossu<\/em> pour \u00e9voquer la curieuse excroissance qu\u2019ils portent sur la face et qui est une constante pour les genres appartenant aux Chlorocyphidae.
Biseriata<\/strong> de bi<\/em>, pour deux<\/em> et de seriata<\/em> qui signifie en s\u00e9rie<\/em>, pour rappeler les deux s\u00e9ries de marques empil\u00e9es<\/em> sur les ailes, ce qu’on \u00e9value sans doute mieux sur la seconde photo de cette page. Noter que l’\u00e9tymologie de biforata<\/a> reprend tout \u00e0 fait ce sens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enfin, l’esp\u00e8ce est suffisamment rare et surtout localis\u00e9e g\u00e9ographiquement pour ne pas avoir de nom vernaculaire anglais.
Les Chlorocyphidae sont souvent appel\u00e9s Jewel Damselflies, ce qui est ais\u00e9 \u00e0 comprendre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
