C’est une esp\u00e8ce \u00e9tonnante, car elle n’a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couverte qu’en 1998, dans la province chinoise du Guangxi, et il a fallu cr\u00e9er un genre pour elle seule. Atratothemis reelsi (Libellulidae) ressemble au Rhyothemis, et par l’extr\u00eame largeur de l’aile post\u00e9rieure \u00e0 Pantala flavescens ; il a d’ailleurs \u00e9t\u00e9 class\u00e9 dans la sous-famille des Pantalinae. Mais ce serait du genre Camacina qu’il serait le plus proche, un genre que je n’ai jamais vu (lacune r\u00e9par\u00e9e en 2022).

Wilson (Odonata of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, part II: Anisoptera, International Journal of Odonatology, Mars 2005, Keith D. P. Wilson<\/em>) donne l’\u00e9tymologie de cette nouvelle esp\u00e8ce :
Atratothemis<\/strong> pour Themis v\u00eatue en noir (Atratus<\/em> en latin signifie habill\u00e9e en noir).  En Themis, on reconnait le nom de la d\u00e9esse de L\u2019Ordre et de la Justice, fr\u00e9quemment utilis\u00e9 pour nommer des Libellulidae, par imitation de ce que faisaient les anciens en utilisant des noms issus de la mythologie.
reelsi<\/strong> est un hommage \u00e0 Graham Reel, odonatologue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peu de choses sont connues sur cette esp\u00e8ce. Elle mesure sans doute un peu plus de 40 mm au total alors que son aile post\u00e9rieure atteint 43.5 mm.
Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 sur une petite mare, envahie de lentilles d’eau, \u00e0 environ 1200 m d’altitude sur laquelle des Ceriagrion auranticum essayaient de pondre. Nous avons m\u00eame assist\u00e9 \u00e0 un accouplement en vol, que j’ai photographi\u00e9, et dont j’ai supprim\u00e9 toutes les photos…
C’est Tom Kompier qui a d\u00e9couvert l’esp\u00e8ce au Vietnam en 2015 ; elle est connue du sud de la Chine (Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan) et au moins de Tha\u00eflande et du Laos.
