J’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s heureux de revoir Chlorocypha curta, que j’avais rencontr\u00e9 au B\u00e9nin<\/a> en 2008, o\u00f9 je faisais mes toutes premi\u00e8res photos de libellules exotiques. C’\u00e9tait le premier Chlorocyphidae que je photographiais et je me souviens de ma surprise en d\u00e9couvrant sa face singuli\u00e8re sur mes photos.
Malheureusement, la configuration terrain o\u00f9 il a fait deux br\u00e8ves apparitions interdisait de s’en approcher plus. Il se trouvait sur un petit ruisseau \u00e9troit et profond, s’\u00e9talant un peu plus largement par endroits. Lorsque nous approchions trop pr\u00e8s de cet amas de branchages, il se contentait de passer de l’autre c\u00f4t\u00e9, mais pour nous le d\u00e9tour \u00e9tait assez compliqu\u00e9 et l’apporche aussi difficile.
Cela n’a rien \u00e0 voir avec les odonates, mais sur ces photos on remarque une des plaies de l’Afrique : les bouteilles d’eau en plastique qui sont abandonn\u00e9es par millions dans la nature…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est impossible de le confondre avec un autre Chlorocypha au Ghana ; la r\u00e9partition des couleurs est unique pour cette esp\u00e8ce, les segments 2 \u00e0 6 rouges, puis bleus jusqu’au dixi\u00e8me.
Hagen 1853, qui le d\u00e9crit sous le nom de Libellago curta, mesure son abdomen \u00e0 21 mm, soit une longueur totale d’environ 32 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le trouve le plus souvent sur des rivi\u00e8res ou ruisseaux en aires ouvertes, ou en zone d\u00e9gag\u00e9e en for\u00eat. Il a une nette pr\u00e9f\u00e9rence, contrairement aux 30 autres esp\u00e8ces de Chlorocypha, pour les zones lumineuses et expos\u00e9es (Dijkstra & Clausnitzer, 2014). L’intensit\u00e9 de sa coloration, sa teinte varient avec l’environnement et la temp\u00e9rature (li\u00e9e aussi \u00e0 l’altitude, les conditions d’\u00e9mergence dans des eaux plus froides), ce qui est connu pour bien d’autres odonates, et en particulier d’autres Chlorocypha, ce qui a g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9 de s\u00e9v\u00e8res difficult\u00e9s taxonomiques ; on d\u00e9crit pour cette esp\u00e8ce une forme cold<\/em>, beaucoup plus terne (voir Dijkstra, 2003).
Son aire de distribution, sous le Sahel, s’\u00e9tend du Sierra Leone \u00e0 l’Ouganda, le Kenya et le Soudan, et au sud jusqu’en Angola.

Les Anglo-saxons l’appellent Blue-tipped Jewel<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong> Chlorocypha curta
Fraser<\/em> (1928) a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre Chlorocypha avec pour type l’Agrion dispar de Palisot de Beauvois<\/em> (dont la description par cet auteur est succincte).
Chlorocypha<\/strong>, du grec chloro<\/em>, pour jaune ou vert<\/em>, et de cyphos<\/em> qui signifie bossu<\/em>, bosse<\/em>, pour la couleur du curieux clypeus<\/em> de l’esp\u00e8ce, certainement chez un sujet immature. Fraser<\/em> \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0I have chosen the name Chlorocypha for this genus, based on the specific character mentioned by Palisot de Beauvois for the type species dispar : \u00ab\u00a0le chaperon [Clypeus] est d’un jaune-verd\u00e2tre<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. Il est pour moi certain que Palisot de Beauvois n’a jamais \u00e9crit ces mots dans sa description,<\/a> ni Selys dans son Synopsis des Calopt\u00e9rygines, ni dans sa Monographie des Calopt\u00e9rygines. L’origine de la citation de Fraser reste pour moi un myst\u00e8re.
Curta<\/strong> signifie court<\/em>, tronqu\u00e9<\/em> en latin, et Hagen qui l’a d\u00e9crit sous le nom de genre Libellago aurait trouv\u00e9 son abdomen plus massif, plus court que les autres Libellago qu’il connaissait.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
