Micromacromia zygoptera (Libellulidae) se cachait, pos\u00e9 sur une feuille au-dessus d’un petit ruisseau au fond sableux, avec des feuilles en d\u00e9composition, ruisseau qui serpentait dans la for\u00eat sombre. Malgr\u00e9 quelques d\u00e9collages, il s’est assez patiemment laiss\u00e9 photographier et heureusement car de tout le s\u00e9jour nous ne verrons que ce m\u00e2le et une femelle.
C’est un genre qui ne comprend que quatre esp\u00e8ces et toutes sont rares et tr\u00e8s peu observ\u00e9es ; avant notre prospection, l’esp\u00e8ce ne comptait que 6 observations sur iNaturalist<\/a>, entre 2012 et 2022.

Elle poss\u00e8de pourtant un nom vernaculaire anglais (peut-on parler de nom commun pour des raret\u00e9s ?) assez amusant : Small Micmac<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le genre Micromacromia (Karsch, 1890) est tr\u00e8s proche des Neodythemis, et s’en distingue en principe par le fait que le champ disco\u00efdal de l’aile ant\u00e9rieure ne commence que par 2 cellules : sauf<\/em> Micromacromia zygoptera, qui, comme les Neodythemis, n’en compte qu’une ! Et c’est sans doute pour cette raison que Ris (1909) l’a d\u00e9crit sous le nom de genre Eothemis, maintenant disparu.
M. zygoptera est en principe la seule esp\u00e8ce au Ghana ; une autre est tr\u00e8s proche, M. camerunica, mais elle pr\u00e9sente donc 2 rang\u00e9es de cellules au d\u00e9part du champ disco\u00efdal de l’aile ant\u00e9rieure.
Les genres, les esp\u00e8ces sont tr\u00e8s proches et la taxonomie a \u00e9t\u00e9 riche en d\u00e9bats complexes, tranch\u00e9s par Dijkstra et Vick (2006) : M. zygoptera s’est appel\u00e9 Eothemis zygoptera<\/a> (Ris, 1909) et Neodythemis scalarum (Pinhey, 1964).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ris mesure son abdomen \u00e0 21,5 mm, Pinhey \u00e0 22 mm sans les appendices anaux, il atteint sans doute \u00e0 peine 34 mm de longueur totale.
Nous l’avons trouv\u00e9 tout \u00e0 fait dans l’environnement d\u00e9crit par Dijkstra (ADDO, 2020<\/a> – ADDO, 2020<\/a>), soit un petit ruisseau de for\u00eat pluviale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend de la Guin\u00e9e au Gabon, sa pr\u00e9sence n’est cependant pas confirm\u00e9e au B\u00e9nin, ni en Guin\u00e9e \u00e9quatoriale.
IUCN Red List<\/a>.

La seule femelle que nous avons rencontr\u00e9e n’a pas eu de chance. Le jour m\u00eame de son \u00e9mergence sans doute, elle a termin\u00e9 son parcours dans une toile d’araign\u00e9e. Noter la marque quadrangulaire sombre tr\u00e8s caract\u00e9ristique au centre de son thorax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notez sur la photo ci-dessus \u00e0 gauche la large expansion du S8 ; cette dilatation est normalement absente pour les femelles Neodythemis.
On peut comparer son abdomen avec celui montr\u00e9 dans Dijkstra & Vick, 2006 :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong> de Micromacromia zygoptera

Micromacromia<\/strong> ; du grec micro<\/em> pour petit<\/em> et de macromia<\/em> qui est construit \u00e0 partir du grec \u2013macro<\/em> pour grand<\/em> ou large<\/em> et \u2013omos<\/em> pour \u00e9paule<\/em>, pour insister sur le thorax massif. C’est un nom tr\u00e8s surprenant pour un Libellulidae et je laisse Fliedner tenter de l’expliquer\u2026
\u00ab\u00a0La description de Karsch de ce genre de libellulid\u00e9 ne mentionne pas du tout Macromia. Peut-\u00eatre que, comme pour le genre Macrothemis de Hagen, la dent des griffes a conduit au nom [les griffes en bas, pr\u00e8s du milieu, avec une dent distincte]. Mais il est \u00e0 noter que la seule esp\u00e8ce sur laquelle Karsch a bas\u00e9 ce taxon pr\u00e9sente une certaine similitude superficielle avec le genre Macromia : elle poss\u00e8de des ailes longues et \u00e9troites, une couleur principale sombre et brillante avec des marques jaunes (verd\u00e2tres), le thorax est vert m\u00e9tallique sombre (pour Macromia, voir Wildermuth & Martens 2019 : 540-542). Quoi qu’il en soit, avec sa longueur totale d’environ 30 mm, c’est un libellulid\u00e9 plut\u00f4t petit.\u00a0\u00bb
Il faut savoir que les sp\u00e9cimens d\u00e9crits par Ferdinand Karsch en 1890 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 captur\u00e9s entre 1887 et 1888 (par Dr. Paul Preuss, un botaniste et explorateur allemand qui a beaucoup travaill\u00e9 au Cameroun \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque). Leur couleur, en collection depuis 2 ou 3 ans, n’avait sans doute pas grand-chose \u00e0 voir avec celle du vivant. De plus, le m\u00e2le que nous avons observ\u00e9 \u00e9tait vieux, couvert d’une pulv\u00e9rulence grise, la femelle, tr\u00e8s jeune, plus proche de la coloration des Macromia.
Zygoptera<\/strong>, du grec zygo, qui signifie un joug<\/em> ou une paire homog\u00e8ne,<\/em> et de ptera<\/em> pour aile<\/em>. On nomme en effet zygopt\u00e8res les demoiselles qui pr\u00e9sentent les ailes ant\u00e9rieures et post\u00e9rieures presque identiques. Or Karsch \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0Von allen mir bekannten Libellulinen zeigt diese die geringste Differenzierung der Vorderfl\u00fcgel und Hinterfl\u00fcgel [De toutes les Libellulines que je connais, celle-ci pr\u00e9sente la plus faible diff\u00e9rence entre les ailes ant\u00e9rieures et les ailes post\u00e9rieures]\u00a0\u00bb. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
