Il n’est pas commun chez les odonates que les femelles soient aussi spectaculaires que les m\u00e2les, c’est pourtant le cas ici. Les m\u00e2les montrent des ailes brillantes et profond\u00e9ment ambr\u00e9es, tandis que les femelles exposent un abdomen massif et un thorax z\u00e9br\u00e9 d’une alternance de lignes noires et jaunes du plus bel effet.

Au Vietnam, nous les avons rencontr\u00e9s sur des rivi\u00e8res de faible profondeur<\/a>, au fond sableux ou rocailleux et au courant parsem\u00e9 de rochers.
Quand on les photographie, il faut leur faire confiance, un peu \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on des Libellulidae; ils sont pos\u00e9s (ils sont assez \u00e9vidents \u00e0 apercevoir avec une telle coloration alaire), ils d\u00e9collent bri\u00e8vement pour attraper une proie et se reposent au m\u00eame endroit, o\u00f9 presque si le photographe \u00e9tait trop gourmand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De Selys dans \u00ab\u00a0Additions au Synopsis des Calopt\u00e9rygines\u00a0\u00bb donne une mesure de 34 mm pour l’abdomen, ce qui ferait assez exactement 44 mm pour le m\u00e2le\u202f; son sujet provenait de Malacca en Malaisie (captur\u00e9 par Wallace, celui de la ligne ! ).
Il compte, sur le thorax, \u00ab\u00a0sept raies rouge\u00e2tres\u00a0\u00bb ; sur la femelle (comme sur le m\u00e2le immature) on peut v\u00e9rifier ce compte sous la forme de sept raies jaunes. Je ne sais pas pourquoi De Selys s’est senti oblig\u00e9 de pr\u00e9ciser que ces sept raies \u00e9taient pr\u00e9sentes de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9\u202f! Je n’ai jamais vu de diff\u00e9rence de motif thoracique ou abdominal entre le c\u00f4t\u00e9 droit ou gauche chez un odonate. Mais il est vrai que cette description ne comporte pas de dessin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le rencontre depuis le Bangladesh et l’est de l’Inde… \u00e0 l’est, jusqu’au Vietnam au nord et \u00e0 la Malaisie p\u00e9ninsulaire au sud.
Je l’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 tr\u00e8s bri\u00e8vement au Laos<\/a>, et plus longuement en Malaisie<\/a>.
