Il y a pourtant 7 Gynacantha au Ghana (13 en Afrique) mais j’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 Gynacantha cylindrata au B\u00e9nin<\/a>, en 2008. Heureusement nous en contacterons une autre \u00e0 plusieurs reprises, G. bullata.
Nous avons cherch\u00e9 ces esp\u00e8ces nocturnes le matin (avant que les autres esp\u00e8ces ne soient actives), le long des sentiers de d\u00e9bardage<\/a>, en entrant en for\u00eat d\u00e8s que la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation le permettait, inspectant les branches, les arbustes, les lianes verticales ; en effet, on les trouve toujours pendant verticalement le long d’un support.

Il est tr\u00e8s proche de G. vesiculata que nous esp\u00e9rions rencontrer ; il s’en distingue, entre autres, par ses appendices anaux. Ceux-ci pr\u00e9sentent une profonde excavation avant l’apex (l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 apparaissant triangulaire), cette excavation \u00e9tant pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9e par une importante touffe de soies.
La photo ci-dessous est un agrandissement d’une des photos pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es et est donc de tr\u00e8s mauvaise qualit\u00e9\u2026 mais suffisante pour confirmer l’identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karsch donne la longueur de l’abdomen du m\u00e2le, 60 mm ; l’insecte entier mesure environ 81 \u00e0 82 mm (l’\u00e9quivalent d’un bel Anax imperator).
On le trouve en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral en dehors de sa zone de reproduction, qui sont des mares, souvent temporaires, en for\u00eat ; ils sont cr\u00e9pusculaires (grands yeux), volant \u00e0 l’aube ou \u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit, sous la pluie parfois, et restent dans la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation dans la journ\u00e9e.

On le trouve de la Guin\u00e9e \u00e0 l’ouest \u00e0 l’Ouganda \u00e0 l’est, et au sud du Gabon \u00e0 la Tanzanie.

En anglais, il prend le nom de Greater Girdled Duskhawker<\/em> soulignant qu’il est plus grand que G. bullata.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong> Gynacantha cylindrata
Le terme\u00a0Gynacantha<\/strong>\u00a0(voir Endersby & Fliedner) a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Rambur \u00e0 partir de deux mots grecs : gyne\u00a0<\/em>pour\u00a0femelle<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0acantha<\/em>\u00a0pour\u00a0\u00e9pine<\/em>, car les femelles de ce genre portent 2 \u00e9pines sous le 10\u1d49 segment. Rambur \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0\u2026 dernier segment chez les femelles, saillant et prolong\u00e9 inf\u00e9rieurement, garni d\u2019\u00e9pines longues (2 \u00e0 3 seulement dans les esp\u00e8ces que je connais)<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0.
Cylindrata<\/strong>, du latin cylindrus pour cylindre et du suffixe -atus signifiant dot\u00e9 de, pour son \u00ab\u00a0abdomen cylindrique, non renfl\u00e9 \u00e0 la base<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb [quand on le compare \u00e0 Gynacantha bullata].<\/p>\n\n\n\n
