Nous avons rencontr\u00e9 Hadrothemis coacta 5 ou 6 fois, toujours en for\u00eat, en particulier le long des chemins de d\u00e9bardage.
C’est un lourd et robuste Libellulidae (Robust Jungle-skimmer<\/em>, en anglais) qui ressemble \u00e0 ses cousins d’Afrique de l’Ouest (H. vrijdaghi<\/em> en est absent) par la pruinosit\u00e9 qu’il porte sur les segments 2 \u00e0 5 (6 parfois ?) ; celle de H. camarensis<\/em><\/a> et de H. infesta<\/em> est plus courte, celle de H. versuta<\/em> tr\u00e8s voisine, mais son espace interalaire est marqu\u00e9 d’une bande jaune qui se poursuit sur la face dorsale du thorax. Quant aux 2 derniers repr\u00e9sentants du genre (qui en comprend 7 au total ) H. defecta<\/a> et H. scabifrons, ils sont tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rents, sans pruinosit\u00e9, et leur abdomen est rouge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De loin, ses parties non pulv\u00e9rulentes semblent tr\u00e8s sombres, mais \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 l’\u00e9clat du flash leur donne un ton nettement rouge.
Karsch (1891), qui le d\u00e9crit dans le genre Thermorthemis,<\/em> donne une longueur totale de 47 mm pour le m\u00e2le et de 50 mm pour la femelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tous les Hadrothemis vivent en for\u00eat, et c’est le long des chemins forestiers que nous les avons rencontr\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le rencontre du Lib\u00e9ria \u00e0 la R\u00e9publique centrafricaine, au sud, il atteint l’Angola.
IUCN Red List<\/a>.

Les femelles sont un exemple du dimorphisme sexuel<\/a> des Libellulidae !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles sont encore plus massives que les m\u00e2les et on remarque bien s\u00fbr les larges expansions ventrales port\u00e9es par le 8\u1d49 segment abdominal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme pour certains Orthetrum<\/a> (ici O. brunneum en France) ou Orthemis<\/a> (ici O. discolor au Panama), et quelques autres genres, ces expansions sont utilis\u00e9es par la femelle, lors de la ponte, pour projeter de l’eau avec ses \u0153ufs, vers la berge de la flaque d’eau, afin d’\u00e9viter qu’ils ne se dess\u00e8chent. On voit les ondes cr\u00e9\u00e9es par l’impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles frappent l’eau de leur abdomen, de fa\u00e7on r\u00e9p\u00e9titive, et soul\u00e8vent des gouttes que l’on voit tr\u00e8s bien ci-dessous. Cette fois-ci, le spectacle se d\u00e9roule sur un chemin de d\u00e9bardage ; les v\u00e9hicules qui y passent ont creus\u00e9 de (tr\u00e8s) profondes orni\u00e8res dans la boue, un terrain id\u00e9al pour ces Hadrothemis coacta que nous avons eu le plaisir d’observer quelques instants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>\u00a0Hadrothemis camarensis
Hadrothemis<\/strong>, du grec\u00a0hadros<\/em>\u00a0qui signifie\u00a0fort, robuste, bien d\u00e9velopp\u00e9<\/em>\u00a0et de Themis, d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, qui a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 de nombreuses fois depuis Hagen (1861). Le nom de la d\u00e9esse de l\u2019ordre est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et ordonner les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces. Ce \u2013themis<\/em>\u00a0est en fait devenu un signal d\u2019appartenance aux Libellulidae. Karsch, d\u00e9crivant le genre Hadrothemis \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0Kurz, plump und dick \u2013 Court, lourd et \u00e9pais\u00a0\u00bb, qui se rapporte \u00e0 son thorax massif.
Coacta<\/strong>, participe pass\u00e9 du verbe latin cogere<\/em>, qui signifie rassembler, condenser, forcer<\/em>. Il n’y a pas d’indication explicite dans le texte de Karsch. On peut supposer que ce qualificatif se r\u00e9f\u00e8re \u00e0 la nervation plus dense de cette esp\u00e8ce, plus dense que celle des 2 autres esp\u00e8ces qu’il d\u00e9crit, H. defecta et H. versuta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
