Comme tous les Chlorocyphidae, Chlorocypha luminosa est spectaculaire et magnifique. Toute la famille est vraiment sp\u00e9ciale aux yeux des odonatologues par la petite taille de ses membres, les ailes aussi longues que l’abdomen, leurs couleurs vives et l’aspect singulier de leur clypeus.
Les anglo-saxons le nomment Orange Jewel<\/em> (le Bijou orange<\/em>) \u00e0 la fois pour la coloration de son abdomen et de ses ailes ; il n’y a pas de risque de confusion des sujets matures avec un autre Chlorocypha, car parmi ces trente et une esp\u00e8ces end\u00e9miques d’Afrique tropicale, seule celle-ci pr\u00e9sente des ailes ambr\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karsch, qui l’a captur\u00e9 au Togo anglais dans une r\u00e9gion qui est actuellement au Ghana, a mesur\u00e9 son aile post\u00e9rieure \u00e0 22 mm et son abdomen \u00e0 21 mm, soit une longueur totale d’\u00e0 peine plus de 30 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 trois ou quatre fois, toujours sur de petites rivi\u00e8res<\/a> en for\u00eat, parfois denses et assez sombres, post\u00e9 dans la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation rivulaire, mais au-dessus de l’eau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa distribution est relativement limit\u00e9e en Afrique de l’Ouest, de la Guin\u00e9e, Sierra Leone et Lib\u00e9ria au Togo en passant par le Ghana et sans doute la C\u00f4te d’Ivoire (une seule donn\u00e9e sur iNaturalist).

<\/em>Karsch l’a d\u00e9crit dans le genre Libellago (genre qui est maintenant restreint \u00e0 l’Asie). Fraser<\/em> (1928) a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre Chlorocypha pour l’Agrion dispar de Palisot de Beauvois<\/em> (1805).
Chlorocypha<\/strong>, du grec chloro<\/em>, pour jaune ou vert<\/em>, et de cyphos<\/em> qui signifie bossu<\/em>, bosse<\/em>, pour la couleur du curieux clypeus<\/em> de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce, certainement chez un sujet immature.  Fraser<\/em> \u00e9crit : \u00ab I have chosen the name Chlorocypha for this genus, based on the specific character mentioned by Palisot de Beauvois for the type species dispar : <\/em>\u00ab\u00a0le chaperon [Clypeus] est d\u2019un jaune-verd\u00e2tre<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. Il est pour moi certain que Palisot de Beauvois n\u2019a jamais \u00e9crit ces mots dans sa description, ni Selys dans son Synopsis des Calopt\u00e9rygines, ni dans sa Monographie des Calopt\u00e9rygines. L\u2019origine de la citation de Fraser reste pour moi un myst\u00e8re.
Luminosa<\/strong>, du latin luminosus<\/em>, signifiant lumineux<\/em>, brillant<\/em> ou rayonnant<\/em>, certainement pour rappeler l’\u00e9clat de ses ailes et le contraste entre le noir et le jaune de son thorax et de son abdomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
