Chlorocypha pyriformosa m\u00e2le, Ghana, Ankasa Forest Reserve, 18\/01\/2026<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Chlorocypha pyriformosa est un des sept Chlorocypha (Chlorocyphidae) du Ghana et nous avons eu la chance de les rencontrer tous. Ils sont tous spectaculaires avec leur face d\u00e9form\u00e9e par un clypeus pro\u00e9minent, leurs ailes aussi longues que l’abdomen et leurs couleurs vives.
Fraser (1947) a d\u00e9crit cette esp\u00e8ce comme une sous-esp\u00e8ce de Chlorocypha dispar et ce n’est pas \u00e9tonnant car ils sont tr\u00e8s proches ; il n’avait not\u00e9 que la forme diff\u00e9rente de la marque claire (rouge) sur le S2. Les sp\u00e9cimens qu’il a eus en main ne montraient sans doute pas les marques jaunes que portent les sujets matures, en particulier la ligne sur la car\u00e8ne thoracique dorsale qui, selon K-D. Dijkstra (2013), est toujours pr\u00e9sente m\u00eame si tr\u00e8s att\u00e9nu\u00e9e parfois. C’est ce grand sp\u00e9cialiste des odonates africains qui en fera une esp\u00e8ce valide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Legrand et Couturier (1985) ont involontairement red\u00e9crit cette esp\u00e8ce pensant avoir affaire \u00e0 une nouvelle esp\u00e8ce, C. mutans, qu’ils comparent justement \u00e0 C. dispar. Ils notent que la tache sur le S2 de C. dispar \u00e0 la forme d’un grain de caf\u00e9<\/em> (s\u00e9par\u00e9e en deux), celle de Chlorocypha pyriformosa (mutans<\/em>…) ressemblant \u00e0 une t\u00eate de loup<\/em>. Ce qu’on ne voit pas bien sur mes photos o\u00f9 on peut constater la forme vraiment particuli\u00e8re de la coloration rouge du troisi\u00e8me segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On note \u00e9galement la diff\u00e9rence de taille ; l’aile post\u00e9rieure de C. pyriformosa mesure 18-19 mm, celle de son cousin 20-21 mm (Dijkstra, 2003).
Fraser qui pensait ne d\u00e9crire qu’une forme de C. dispar ne donne pas sa taille ; K-D Dijkstra, quand il change le statut de ssp. en esp\u00e8ce valide, ne donne pas non plus la longueur de l’abdomen. Il mesure quelques millim\u00e8tres de moins que C. dispar qui mesure 28 \u00e0 29 mm, ce qui en fait de petits zygopt\u00e8res.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est sur la berge d’une assez large rivi\u00e8re<\/a>, Ankasa River, qui traverse le parc du m\u00eame nom, que nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 ; il a fait 2 tr\u00e8s br\u00e8ves apparitions dans une zone ouverte, mais difficile d’acc\u00e8s.
Il porte d’ailleurs le nom vernaculaire anglais de River Jewel<\/em>.

Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend de la Guin\u00e9e-Bissau \u00e0 la R\u00e9publique D\u00e9mocratique du Congo et au Gabon.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>\u00a0: Chlorocypha pyriformosa<\/em>

Chlorocypha<\/strong>, du grec\u00a0chloro<\/em>, pour\u00a0jaune ou vert<\/em>, et de\u00a0cyphos<\/em>\u00a0qui signifie\u00a0bossu<\/em>,\u00a0bosse<\/em>, pour la couleur du curieux\u00a0clypeus<\/em>\u00a0de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce, certainement chez un sujet immature.\u00a0\u00a0Fraser<\/em>\u00a0\u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0I have chosen the name Chlorocypha for this genus, based on the specific character mentioned by Palisot de Beauvois for the type species dispar :\u00a0<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0le chaperon [Clypeus] est d\u2019un jaune-verd\u00e2tre<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. Il est pour moi certain que Palisot de Beauvois n\u2019a jamais \u00e9crit ces mots dans sa description, ni Selys dans son Synopsis des Calopt\u00e9rygines, ni dans sa Monographie des Calopt\u00e9rygines. L\u2019origine de la citation de Fraser reste pour moi un myst\u00e8re.

Pyriformosa<\/strong>, du latin pirum<\/em>, pour poire,<\/em> et du latin formosus<\/em> qui signifie beau<\/em> ou magnifiquement form\u00e9<\/em>, ceci pour la forme rouge sur le S2 qui, pour Fraser, ressemble plus \u00e0 une poire<\/a> qu’\u00e0 une t\u00eate de loup : \u00ab\u00a0In the present specimens, this spot is much larger, extending the whole length of the segment and bilobate in shape, one lobe occupying the basal three-fourths of the segment, the other, very much smaller and narrower, is a mere stalk connecting the larger lobe to the apical border of segment.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<\/div>
