Chlorocypha selysi est le septi\u00e8me et dernier repr\u00e9sentant des Chlorocypha du Ghana que je pr\u00e9sente sur le site ; nous n’aurions pas pu faire mieux, car parmi la trentaine d’esp\u00e8ces end\u00e9miques d’Afrique tropicale, sept seulement sont pr\u00e9sentes dans ce pays.

Il est proche des Chlorocypha dont l’abdomen est enti\u00e8rement rouge ; C. rubida<\/a> est plus ros\u00e9, C. dispar<\/a> montre un thorax compl\u00e8tement noir, C. pyriformosa<\/a> pr\u00e9sente une fine et lumineuse ligne jaune sur la car\u00e8ne thoracique dorsale, des taches jaunes sur le vertex et sa face est sombre alors que celle de Chlorocypha selysi est bleue (anteclypeus et labrum) ; cette caract\u00e9ristique lui vaut son nom anglais : Blue-faced Jewel<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je n’ai pas r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 trouver une description mentionnant sa taille (elle n’est pas dans Pinhey (1967)) ; Karsch, \u00e0 qui est attribu\u00e9e l’esp\u00e8ce, ne la mentionne que comme une remarque \u00ab\u00a0Libellago curta Selys 1879 pourrait d\u00e9sormais s’appeler L. selysi<\/em> \u00a0\u00bb soulignant que dans ses Quatri\u00e8mes Additions au Synopsis des Calopt\u00e9rygines<\/em>, Selys mentionne pour la premi\u00e8re fois pour cette esp\u00e8ce \u00ab\u00a0l\u00e8vre sup\u00e9rieure et devant de l’\u00e9pistome <\/em>jaun\u00e2tre\u00a0\u00bb. Or Chlorocypha curta (ex-Libellago) n’a effectivement pas la face claire.
Ce qui est vraiment \u00e9tonnant est que Selys y d\u00e9crit un m\u00e2le adulte : or les m\u00e2les C. curta<\/a> ont les quatre derniers segments bleus.
En tout cas, il nous dit que cette esp\u00e8ce a une \u00ab\u00a0Taille interm\u00e9diaire entre la rubida et la dispar<\/em>.\u00a0\u00bb, la premi\u00e8re atteignant 33 mm, la seconde 29 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous avons observ\u00e9 un, peut-\u00eatre deux sujets diff\u00e9rents, dans un ruisseau forestier tr\u00e8s \u00e0 l’ombre, ce qui est typiquement l’habitat d\u00e9crit dans ADDO.
Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend de la Guin\u00e9e et de la Sierra Leone au Gabon, Ouganganda et R\u00e9publique centrafricaine.

Chlorocypha<\/strong>, du grec\u00a0chloro<\/em>, pour\u00a0jaune ou vert<\/em>, et de\u00a0cyphos<\/em>\u00a0qui signifie\u00a0bossu<\/em>,\u00a0bosse<\/em>, pour la couleur du curieux\u00a0clypeus<\/em>\u00a0de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce, certainement chez un sujet immature. Fraser<\/em>\u00a0\u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0I have chosen the name Chlorocypha for this genus, based on the specific character mentioned by Palisot de Beauvois for the type species dispar :\u00a0<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0le chaperon [Clypeus] est d\u2019un jaune-verd\u00e2tre<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. Il est pour moi certain que Palisot de Beauvois n\u2019a jamais \u00e9crit ces mots dans sa description, ni Selys dans son Synopsis des Calopt\u00e9rygines, ni dans sa Monographie des Calopt\u00e9rygines. L\u2019origine de la citation de Fraser reste pour moi un myst\u00e8re.
Selysi<\/strong> est bien s\u00fbr un hommage direct \u00e0 Michel-Edmond de S\u00e9lys Longchamps<\/em>, un homme d’\u00c9tat lib\u00e9ral, un entomologiste, un ornithologue et un mammalogiste belge, mais surtout connu dans notre milieu pour son \u0153uvre gigantesque de taxonomie des Odonates ; il aurait d\u00e9crit plus de 1000 esp\u00e8ces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
