Si les ailes de Sapho ciliata, Calopterygidae, apparaissent noires dans l’ombre, d\u00e8s qu’elles accrochent la lumi\u00e8re, elles se parent de somptueuses irisations m\u00e9talliques indigo ou violet profond (ce qui lui vaut le nom de Western Bluewing, en anglais). Le genre, end\u00e9mique d\u2019Afrique tropicale, compte sept esp\u00e8ces (World Odonata List<\/a>) et il diff\u00e8re du genre Umma, principalement par le fait que ses sujets sont plus robustes, avec des pt\u00e9rostigmas plus grands, et arborent souvent des ailes color\u00e9es (ADDO (2023)). Mais il n\u2019est pas impossible qu\u2019un jour les genres soient fusionn\u00e9s dans le genre Sapho qui aurait la pr\u00e9s\u00e9ance\u2026

Il n’y a que deux repr\u00e9sentants du genre Sapho au Ghana, mais il est facile \u00e0 s\u00e9parer de son cousin S. bicolor,<\/a> dont la coloration alaire n’orne que le quart distal de l’aile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Selys & Hagen (1854) nous disent que le m\u00e2le mesure 57-60 mm et la femelle, un peu plus petite 55-56 mm.
Nous les avons rencontr\u00e9s en for\u00eat, dans des zones ouvertes, pr\u00e8s de ruisseaux ou de rivi\u00e8res<\/a> ou l’ombre alterne avec le soleil.

Ci-dessous, un jeune m\u00e2le aux ailes encore hyalines, ce qui permet de constater la pr\u00e9sence d’un pt\u00e9rostigma, qui dispara\u00eetra presque compl\u00e8tement chez l’adulte dans la coloration sombre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On rencontre Sapho ciliata de la Guin\u00e9e et de la Sierra Leone au Nigeria (il n’est cependant pas actuellement recens\u00e9 au B\u00e9nin).

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong> Sapho cilata
L’esp\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite sous le genre Agrion par Fabricius et c’est Selys qui l’a class\u00e9 dans le genre Sapho.
Sapho<\/strong> fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 Sappho ou Sapho, po\u00e9tesse grecque de l\u2019Antiquit\u00e9 (VII\u1d49 si\u00e8cle av. J.-C.) originaire de l\u2019\u00eele de Lesbos. Selys, dans son Synopsis des Calopt\u00e9rygines, cr\u00e9e de nombreux genres et multiplie les r\u00e9f\u00e9rences \u00e0 la mythologie ou \u00e0 l\u2019histoire ; des genres se voient ainsi nomm\u00e9s Phaon (passeur sur l\u2019\u00eele de Lesbos dont Sappho tombera amoureuse) et Cleis (pr\u00e9nom de la m\u00e8re et de la fille de Sappho). Voir Fliedner (2006).
Ciliata<\/strong>, du latin cilium<\/em> pour cil <\/em>auquel est ajout\u00e9 le suffixe –ata<\/em> signifiant dot\u00e9 de<\/em> et se rapporte bien s\u00fbr aux \u00e9pines denses et longues que portent ses pattes. Fabricius \u00e9crit :\u00a0\u00bbPedes valde ciliati, nigri<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb \u2013 \u00ab\u00a0Pattes fortement cili\u00e9es, noires<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0.

Fabricius rel\u00e8ve que le sujet qu’il d\u00e9crit, de la collection Banks, provient de la c\u00f4te de Coromandel, sur la rive orientale de l’Inde. Il s’agit d’une erreur d’\u00e9tiquetage et Selys refera la description \u00e0 partir d’un sujet de Guin\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
