Neodythemis klingi fait partie d’un genre qui compte 14 esp\u00e8ces, 10 en Afrique tropicale et 4 \u00e0 Madagascar. C’est cependant le seul pr\u00e9sent au Ghana et c’est le plus commun, le plus souvent rencontr\u00e9 en Afrique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur une vue de profil, il est facile \u00e0 identifier si on associe la large tache claire du septi\u00e8me segment, la ponctuation sur les segments 3 \u00e0 5 et les larges deux bandes lat\u00e9rales claires sur le thorax, qui ne porte pas de bande ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale.
Karsch nous dit que le m\u00e2le mesure 30 \u00e0 32 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Si les taches thoraciques sont le plus souvent blanch\u00e2tres, sur quelques sujets, m\u00e2les et femelles, elles sont curieusement jaunes, sans que cette coloration ne semble li\u00e9e \u00e0 l’\u00e2ge.

Encore plus \u00e9tonnant, nous avons rencontr\u00e9 beaucoup plus de femelles que de m\u00e2les ; elles sont tr\u00e8s proches de ces m\u00e2les et portent les m\u00eames taches claires sur l’abdomen et le thorax. Leur abdomen est cependant plus massif, comme tr\u00e8s souvent pour les Libellulidae.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous les avons rencontr\u00e9s en for\u00eat, essentiellement au long des all\u00e9es foresti\u00e8res, le plus souvent dans des flaques de lumi\u00e8re.
K-D Dijkstra, sur le site de l’ADDO, pr\u00e9cise qu’on les trouve sur les ruisseaux ombrag\u00e9s par la for\u00eat (Stream Junglewatcher <\/em>en anglais), mais parfois dans les clairi\u00e8res.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ci-dessous \u00e0 gauche, une assez mauvaise photo d’une vieille<\/em> femelle qui se couvre de pruine bleut\u00e9e, photo que j’ai tout de m\u00eame conserv\u00e9e pour montrer cette teinte verd\u00e2tre sur ses ailes ; la for\u00eat humide est un milieu propice au d\u00e9veloppement de la mousse<\/em>, sur tous les supports !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son aire de distribution s’\u00e9tend depuis la Sierra Leone et la Guin\u00e9e \u00e0 l’ouest jusqu’\u00e0 la R\u00e9publique centrafricaine, la R\u00e9publique d\u00e9mocratique du Congo et la Zambie \u00e0 l’est.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span> Neodythemis klingi
L’esp\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite par Ferdinand Karsch sous le nom de genre Allorrhizucha<\/em> et ce sont Dijkstra & Vick (2006) qui ont d\u00e9montr\u00e9 son appartenance au Neodythemis, genre qui avait \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Karsch (le genre Allorrhizucha<\/em> a ainsi disparu).
Neodythemis<\/strong>, du grec neo<\/em> pour nouveau et de Dythemis<\/em>, un genre d’odonates sud-am\u00e9ricains. Dythemis <\/em>selon Fliedner & Endersby (2019) est construit \u00e0 partir du mot grec\u00a0dy\u00a0<\/em>qui signifie\u00a0deux<\/em>\u00a0et de Themis. Il faut supposer que si Hagen a choisi Th\u00e9mis, \u2013 d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, c\u2019est \u00e0 la fois pour respecter la \u00ab mode \u00bb qui consistait \u00e0 donner un nom en rapport avec la mythologie, tr\u00e8s en vogue \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, et parce qu\u2019elle est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9e \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire, ordonner et classer les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces. \u00ab\u00a0Deux\u00a0\u00bb pourrait faire r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au 10\u00b0 segment de la femelle qui pr\u00e9sente deux tubercules.
L’\u00e9vocation de cette esp\u00e8ce sud-am\u00e9ricaine s’explique par la ressemblance des taches sur l’abdomen, en particulier avec Dythemis nigra<\/a>.
Klingi<\/strong> ; Karsch explique que \u00ab\u00a0La description repose sur une femelle unique, …, ainsi que sur un m\u00e2le captur\u00e9 par Monsieur le Premier-Lieutenant Kling lors de ses excursions depuis la station de Bismarckburg, dans l’arri\u00e8re-pays du Togo<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
