Parmi la trentaine d’Elattoneura d’Afrique tropicale, Elattoneura balli <\/em>est un des quatre enregistr\u00e9s au Ghana. Nous avons eu la chance de tous les rencontrer et celui dont il est le plus proche est certainement E. villiersi<\/em><\/a>.
Mais s’ils ont tous deux la face dorsale du thorax claire, ce dernier montre deux formes elliptiques blanches bien d\u00e9limit\u00e9es, tandis que notre esp\u00e8ce est simplement couverte d’une pruine blanch\u00e2tre sans limites distinctes. De plus, E. villiersi<\/em> pr\u00e9sente les deux derniers segments blancs ainsi que l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 distale du S8. Cette extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 reste sombre pour Elattoneura balli<\/em>.

Il est aussi tr\u00e8s proche, voire indiscernable sans binoculaire, de E. pruinosa<\/em>, tr\u00e8s voisin de E. Lliba<\/em>, mais ces deux esp\u00e8ces ne s’aventurent pas en Afrique de l’Ouest. Il prend d’ailleurs le nom anglais de Western Stream Threadtail<\/em>.

Et J’avais eu la surprise de rencontrer deux Elattoneura \u00e0 Born\u00e9o, au Sarawak (E. aurantiaca<\/em><\/a> et E. longispina<\/a><\/em>) ; d’apr\u00e8s Rory Dow, le sp\u00e9cialiste de cette r\u00e9gion, il s’agit certainement en Asie d’un autre genre, qui reste \u00e0 d\u00e9crire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous n’avons eu qu’une seule rencontre avec Elattonura balli, sur un petit cours d’eau en for\u00eat<\/a>, avec un faible niveau d’eau, un fond sableux et rocailleux, tout \u00e0 fait le m\u00eame environnement que celui qui convient \u00e0 E. villiersi.
Selon Kimmins, son abdomen mesure 34 mm, il atteint donc \u00e0 peine 40 mm.

Nous avons eu la chance d’observer un couple en ponte, une rare occasion d’observer une femelle. Celle-ci ins\u00e9rait ses \u0153ufs dans des v\u00e9g\u00e9taux vivants, flottants ou immerg\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie <\/strong><\/span>Elattoneura balli
Elattoneura<\/strong>\u00a0du grec\u00a0ellaton<\/em>, pour\u00a0plus petit,<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0neuron<\/em>\u00a0qui en entomologie est traduit par\u00a0nervure dans une aile<\/em>. Ceci en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la longueur r\u00e9duite d\u2019une nervure qui fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence dans la syst\u00e9matique des zygopt\u00e8res. Voir Suhling & Martens (2007).
