Je n’ai vu Orthetrum chrysis que dans le parc de Cuc Phuong, c’est-\u00e0-dire un peu au sud d’Hano\u00ef, \u00e0 faible altitude, et je n’ai que ces deux photos \u00e0 montrer. Au Vietnam, il est bien difficile de le confondre avec un autre odonate, Orthetrum testaceum<\/a> n’est pas pr\u00e9sent.

Mais Selys, qui l’a nomm\u00e9 Libellula chrysis (\u00ab\u00a0Race ? L. chrysis<\/em>, Selys\u00a0\u00bb) dans \u00ab\u00a0Viaggo di Leonardo Fea in Birmanie Regioni Vicine, Odonates de Birmanie, 1891<\/a>) le compare et le diff\u00e9rencie justement de Libellula (Orthetrum) testaceum. Ici un comparatif<\/a>, car l\u00e0 o\u00f9 les deux esp\u00e8ces sont pr\u00e9sentes, la confusion est possible pour un amateur comme je l’\u00e9tais, plus encore en Malaisie, o\u00f9 je les ai c\u00f4toy\u00e9s.

Selys a bien remarqu\u00e9 la touffe de soie sous le deuxi\u00e8me segment, on la devine \u00e0 peine sur la photo ci-dessus. Noter d’ailleurs qu’un de ses nombreux noms vernaculaires anglais est Spine-tufted skimmer<\/em>. Cette touffe est absente pour O. testaceum.
Un autre nom vernaculaire anglais remarque la face dorsale non color\u00e9e, brune, presque comme le reste du thorax : Brown-backed red marsh hawk<\/em>, ce qui le diff\u00e9rencie une fois encore de son cousin.
Selys mentionne \u00e9galement, ce que l’on constate, les f\u00e9murs rouss\u00e2tres.

Il mesure 41 \u00e0 48 mm (1), se pla\u00eet sur les mares, petits \u00e9tangs o\u00f9 les marais comme celui o\u00f9 sont faites ces photos\u202f; une aire ouverte et couverte d’herbes assez hautes, en limite de for\u00eat, dans laquelle nous nous sommes d\u00e9plac\u00e9s avec pr\u00e9caution, empruntant tous le chemin de celui qui passait le premier… Certains \u00e9carts ou initiatives ont \u00e9t\u00e9 sanctionn\u00e9s, au moins par le remplissage des bottes, ce qui est commun dans ce sport<\/em>, mais aussi par une application de vase plus ou moins pestilentielle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le trouve en Inde (sauf l’extr\u00eame nord-ouest), jusqu’au sud de la Chine et Hong Kong et aux Philippines, \u00e0 l’est et au sud jusqu’en Indon\u00e9sie et aux \u00eeles de la Sonde en passant par la Malaisie, Singapour et Born\u00e9o.

Je l’avais rencontr\u00e9 plus longuement en Malaisie<\/a> o\u00f9 l’on trouvera plus de photos, des clich\u00e9s de femelles et un accouplement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Orthetrum <\/strong>(3) vient de deux mots grecs, orthos<\/em> signifiant \u00ab droit<\/em>  \u00bb et etron<\/em>  \u00ab abdomen<\/em>\u00ab , ceci pour signifier que les c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l\u2019abdomen sont parall\u00e8les. Ce nom de genre (neutre) cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Newman en 1833 a perdu sa pertinence avec la d\u00e9couverte de nouvelles esp\u00e8ces, mais le nom est rest\u00e9.
Chrysis<\/strong>, du grec khr\u00fdsis<\/em>, dorure<\/em>, recouvrir d’or<\/em>. Je ne partage pas l’opinion de Ngiam et Ng (1) qui rattache l’\u00e9tymologie \u00e0 Chrysis, une pr\u00eatresse de la d\u00e9esse Hera, qui par inadvertance mit le feu \u00e0 son temple, la couleur de la libellule rappelant celle du feu (?). Je pense plut\u00f4t que cette couleur dor\u00e9e est \u00e0 rapprocher de deux caract\u00e8res qui semblent distinguer cette esp\u00e8ce de O. testaceum, selon Selys ; \u00e0 deux reprises, il utilise en effet la couleur rouss\u00e2tre : le font rouss\u00e2tre obscur<\/em> – f\u00e9murs en partie rouss\u00e2tres<\/em>. Et la face dorsale du thorax et m\u00eame ses faces lat\u00e9rales peuvent aussi \u00eatre qualifi\u00e9es de rouss\u00e2tres (rappelons que Selys d\u00e9crit cette esp\u00e8ce \u00e0 partir de sujets en collection dont les couleurs peuvent \u00eatre alt\u00e9r\u00e9es).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
